Every Wednesday morning I ride the scoot across our small town to have breakfast with the boys. 7:00AM sharp. Every week it gets darker and colder. Yesterday it was dark (45 minutes until sunrise) and 31 degrees That's all ! I took the truck.

Well I guess it is getting a bit nippy. I noticed I have to warm up the engine on my scooter longer and longer in the morning now too. I have the choice of going to work early or a little later. So i have the choice of riding to work in the daylight and riding home in the dark or vice versa.

Sunshinecma; Do you use tire chains or studded tires when in up to 2' of snow?

When I was a teenager I got caught in a snow storm. I had a Harley 125. I called my dad who had chains on his car. Then I followed him home by riding in his tire tracks. ;D

I did a 40 mile ride a couple days ago in 40 degree weather with winds at 25 gusting to 35. Went out today at 30 degrees to take care of some business... around 8 miles, but only mild wind. It felt warmer than it did at 40 F in open country with the high winds. The 2" taller (and wider) Cee Bailey's windshield helps a lot. These were taken when coming in from picking up some inventory 20 miles away the day it was so windy... those winds are about my limit, at least when carrying a load like this: You can see the larger than stock windshield in this one:

Thanks, I've got the tall GIVI windshield and it works pretty good. I just don't have the clothes. It seems a waste to invest in cold weather gear when we don't have that much cold weather.
I've also adopted a policy of:
No Freeways No night No rain
Trying to be safe in my old age.

I guess I'm just a wuss when it comes to cold weather. My scoots are tucked away in the workshop/mod barn until spring thaw.
Dennis, what's in the boxes? Somebody's Christmas present dulcimers?

they do not make snow chains for these things so i ride in the tyre tracks of other cars.

Dennis, what's in the boxes? Somebody's Christmas present dulcimers? You got it! Mountain dulcimers, so it wasn't a heavy load. I also had about 12 dulcimer books in the rear trunk. I thought of getting 3 dulcimers(I have before), but decided against it. Too much surface area to catch the wind with 35mph gusts.

Dennis, what's in the boxes? Somebody's Christmas present dulcimers? You got it! Mountain dulcimers, so it wasn't a heavy load. I still have to get me a good one. My little First Act model just doesn't cut it. Plus it needs strings. Right now I'm trying to squeeze in enough time to learn Silent Night on my guitar. Three stitches in my index finger is slowing down any succesful guitar chording though.

Although I have heard of ocassional good ones that pretty much perform as a dulcimer is supposed to, those Walmart First Act dulcimers are generally what most dulcimer players refer to as DSO's, or dulcimer shaped objects. You really do need a better one than that to keep from getting discouraged.

Every week it gets darker and colder. I know what you mean! Yesterday, since my scooter is laid up for repairs and I was getting "Scot Withdrawal" I took the fat boy out for a ride for a fix... 68 degrees was a bit nippy! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Dennis, I also got the Cee Bailey's windshield, but the 6" rise euro. What a difference! No wind, no noise... what a pleasure! Here is a shot showing the difference between the stock shield and the Cee Bailey shield:

Low temps and wind don't bother me now that I get my winter riding gear (on the cheap!!!) from WalMart. There's snow in the forecast...yeah, icy slushy roads would be my limit. If there's sun outside and 25 degrees, Johhny's still scootin'

Rich, that's a huge difference. I think the Helix windshield was taller than the stock one on your scoot was, and I'm pretty short, so the height is plenty for me. Like the windshield in your pic... mine is the same at the base, but goes pretty much straight up all the way, making it 4" wider at the top. I'm hoping that it isn't so much windshield that I'll have to switch the stock one back every summer to be comfortable. They have a bigger windhield for the Helix but this turned out to be the right one for me. It does have me looking through the windshield pretty much entirely, unless I really stretch to look over it, but the stock one had me looking over the windshield for a "down the road" look, and through it for most everything else.

Hi all, just received my new cee baileys windshield today, should have purchased a taller screen, still to much wind, live and learn, well at least we have good scootin weather low 80s and no snow down here.

Hi Dennis, The old shield was about up to the top of my chest. This one is exactly at eye level, and with the upward curve, the air goes over my head completely... I love it! I also like the difference in clarity! The old one came with surface scratches on it, as well as many imperfections in the plastic, making it hard to see correctly, but this new aircraft plexi-glass is superb! It is crystal clear and distortion free. I also like the bonus Bailey's threw in, the shield polish and cloth... nice touch!

You know guys, I'm noticing something strange here. Today I was out for a spin and noticed I was at 55mph, yet the tach read 4K and there was plenty of throttle left??
One of two things is going on...
Either this new shield has incredible aerodynamics (I feel no wind at all) and I'm cutting through the air more efficiently, or this new speedo is off. I'll have to bring the GPS to work tomorrow and check it.
The ride now is really enjoyable with no wind blasts! I should have gotten one of these years ago!

Well I GPSed it today, and when I was at 55 on the speedo, the GPS read 52, so it's definitely not the speedo...
