I use Geico Motorcycle insurance, and comp and collision costs me $43 more a year for 2 scoots... well worth the money, $189 total.
Something sounds wrong here though, because A GAP policy ensures that in the event of a total loss or theft, the remaining payments are made on the loan so that a customer does not have to pay for the difference of the payments left vs the book value.
I would call my insurance company again, because GAP, by its very definition, covers you in this event.

I tried to get Geico but they don't have insurance in Michigan. I use Progressive. By the way, I'm insured year round and still run errands and stuff if there's no ice or snow. There is many a fine day with blue sky in winter, and a scooter or cycle gets a boost in power when it's 10 degrees.

I couldn't imagine riding in 10 degree weather even if my scoot had heat! Although, as a kid, I used to ride back and forth to work 12 months in New York... in the rain, snow, slush, whatever with no problem.
I have been in New Orleans now for 25 years and have become acclimated to the weather here. When it drops below 50 I hang up my helmet now! Brrr...
I guess this is what happens as you get older ;D

Sure wish I would have had some insurance last June when some LOWLIFE SCUMBAG stole my first scoot. It was locked on my front porch with a fat cable. My scoots live inside since then!!!

I made sure before I even brought my scooter home that I had protection against everything..especially theft. As easy as these things are to move, even with all the precautions you can think of, you're still at risk.
I'm sorry for all those who's scoots got stolen. That's my biggest fear when it comes to mine. It's insured for it, but it's my main vehicle and I'd be so upset if it were stolen. And to owe money on it when it happens...*hugs to everyone*

I can't get a policy written for a 50cc scoot in my area. Which kinda sucks because I really would like to at least have some kinda theft policy on my ride if nothing else. I searched hi n lo for a carrier that offered scooter insurance. Progressive was the only one, but they only write policies for scoots 125cc and up.
