Today I took a nice short ride because it was sunny out. We normally have lots of rainy/thunderstorm action this late in the summer but it was nice so I hopped on my scooter and proceeded to scoot down to the beach. I brought my camera so I could show you guys some of the nice facilities we have in my county.
It's 6.3 miles from my house to Turtle Beach, Siesta Key, Sarasota, FL and the parking lot is scooter friendly in that the sand pack is tight enough to hold your scoot upright without tipping.
This is the view you get when you are there. It was fairly busy today but I've seen it more packed than that in the middle of winter when everywhere else in the country is cold.
When you are done sunning yourself, playing in the water and people watching, there is a real nice picnic area right next to the parking lot. Even if you didn't bring food there is usually a hot dog vendor in the parking lot selling hot dogs and cold drinks.
If you have room in/on/attached to your scoot for BBQ fixings (charcoal/burgers/dogs) they have little hibatchi grills on short poles for people to use.
On the way home I decided to stop at the picnic/fishing area at North Bridge on Siesta Key to take one shot. It's right on the ICW and there are benches, shaded areas, a sidewalk for strolling and fishing is permitted. I'll post more pics from this area next time I go for a ride.
After North Bridge I was scooting along when I saw two others on a Roketa 50 and a Longbo 50, we all smiled and *beep* *beeped* at each other. You've probably found that a lot, I'm only running into it now, it's kinda neat to run into other scooter enthusiasts on the road. There's people who like to ride scooters and they seem to be the beeping and smiling types, I include myself in this group.
On the way home I took the scenic route and went uptown only to discover my favorite used bookstore has gone out of business. After that very sad discovery I remembered I needed some new shorts as I've lost quite a bit of weight from exercising and decided to go to Goodwill and buy some shorts.
Distance to beach: 6.3 miles
Total trip: 29 miles
Total fun: ;D
Smells along the way: jasmine, ocean air, a bakery, some old clunker with bad exhaust, a clogged up bayou, a pretty girl with nice perfume
I hope you had fun reading this even if you couldn't get out on a scoot today. As time goes on I'll visit more places on my scooter and write about it here, and bring you guys along for the ride as much as possible. Have a good weekend!
