I'm lazy today, just going to paste from my Motofino site ;D
=========================
Vince tells me he is seeing and hearing about more gummed up carbs. One cause of the problem can be buying and storing gas in plastic milk or juice jugs. The jugs are coated with vegetable wax to protect the product flavor. The wax dissolves in gas, and settles out in the carb. There was a service bulletin from, I think, Briggs and Stratton, about this, over 30 years ago. Another consideration is that if you have a gas can sitting in the carport, and the air temp drops, the gas will contract, and if there isn't an air tight seal, air will get sucked in to the can. The moisture in the air condenses out, and ends up under the gas. The gas stations around here are all prepay, it makes buying a small amount of gas a real hassle. If you stockpile gas, take care of it.

Paste or not that's valuable advise. In the interest of safety I wouldn't store gasoline in anything but a gasoline container, that prevents any accidental improper use.

Andi I was running a service department for a hardware store. Bunch of folks just thought I was trying to sell gas cans, LOL "Improper use" has got all tied up with politically correct stuff. "In the interest of safety" ain't got a lot to do with the issue, the issue is Carnuba wax flakes in your carb. Last damned folks on this Earth I want messing with my "safety" are a bunch of little beaurocrats who can't tie their own shoes! Damn, what are you waiting for,Owlgore? ;D

The plastic milk jugs are made as cheaply as possible. They can break open or leak very easily. You also do not know if the plastic is soluble in gasoline or not either.
But the real question is if you run out of gas, and all you can get is a gallon milk jug, is whether you are going to use it or not anyway. It depends on the circumstancs, but....

I've been net searching for a "small" .5 or 1l gas/fuel can. Does anybody know where they might have them? I had a buddy who used the plastic flasks designed for liquor. Would they work, or would gasoline break them down also?

I think you would be better off using a soda bottle in an emergency the plastic seems more stable, but who knows? what people have been using in my Bajaj group is the small gas cannisters sold by REI to hold white gas for camping holds a quart or less but usually enough to get to a gas station.

Damn, what are you waiting for,Owlgore? ;D I try to be polite, but that has nothing to do with political correctness. I understand your point about wax in fuel, but disagree that this issue has nothing to do with safety. Sure if its just you and your are a reasonable person your milk jug maybe fine. Safety was invented for the dumb and ignorant and the more people that have access to your milk jug full of fuel the more likely an accident due to misuse. I don't play God ..... I didn't create live, I won't take live. I resent the Owlgore comment, I love nature, won't litter and try to do my part to preserve it, but I'm not a tree hugging out of touch career politician, I'm well capable of tying a knot and do work for a living (unfortunately I have too). The odds of you being more of a naturalist than I am are slim. I've been active in wildlife rescue for 50 years, still spend a lot of my time in the field. My point is that government already is way out of hand, and getting worse daily. I will admit that I find hints of political correctness offensive. ;D Some politically correct speakers are just more offensive than others.

Well I wasn't really looking to compete and I do agree with you, the less government the better. This is the best analogy I've ever heart in regards to government services: its like taking blood out of your left arm to put back into your right arm and you loose 80 percent in the process.
Consider yourself lucky as to where you live, I live in a land of blatant corruption and plain ignorance and I also know there is much worse places in this region and for that matter on this planet.
