Lots of postings about sources for replacement batteries found on the scooter forums. My preference is for the AGM type because it maintains a charge on standing for a longer period of time, is like a deep cycle battery (less damage when drained and recharged repeatedly) and is less susceptible to vibration damage. A common size found in many of our scoots is "YTX-9BS", a 9 Amp hour rating battery. Bought a couple at "ebatteriestogo.com" last year and paid in the mid $50 range. Price is now $67 for the same battery. Walmart carries this battery in their premium line for $50. Acid needs to be added but once in the battery, the battery can be mounted in almost any position. Don't know the length of the warranty at Walmart but at ebatteriestogo, it is 1 year. Sears only offers 6 months warranty for their premium battery ($60, or more) of the same size.
You can find regular lead acid batteries for less. Just thought this was a good price for AGM type.

Hello everyone. Beware: if you have to add acid to a battery, IT IS NOT AN AGM OR GEL BATTERY!!!!! Both the AGM and Gel battery have a paste/gel, not a liquid in them!!..and they have internal catalitic devices inside the SEALED case to recombine the gases that are given off by normal charging (hydrogen and oxygen). Some liquid acid batteries do have great cap seals and can be inverted (Varley of English manufacturing is one), but they are still not AGM or Gel batteries. Look at the case..it will tell you what type the battery is. AGM batteries have charging curves almost identical to the traditional liquid acid battery of your car....the Gels are much more fussy in their charging requirements..(IMHO they are a P.I.T.A. and I do not use them). The AGM and Gel type batteries can be shipped FedX or UPS without any Haz-Mat declarations and sur-charges. For my CF Moto, only a AGM will do! Enjoy, Bill

Bill; Interesting explanation. I will look again at the top end battery Walmart offers. IIRC, the box did say it was an "AGM" battery - could be wrong. At the time, I thought it was interesting that the acid must be added. The two AGM batteries I purchased from "ebatteriestogo.com" were both shipped complete and ready to go. Interesting thing is, the first one I bought failed in a little over 1 year. The second one is still OK and I have just left the cheap O.E. Chinese battery in the Linhai to see how long it lasts. Going on 6 months so far and now might be the real test to see if sulfation occurs while the scoot is used infrequently. I do put the float charger on it every week or two.
