I joined a local fundraiser for MI-COPS/Lansing Warthogs MC police-escorted run today, and it was quite an experience! The MI-COPS group (for those not familiar) is our State chapter of Concerns Of Police Survivors, and the Warthogs are Police/Firefighters who run Harley or Victory bikes. Anyway, we ran approx 90 miles with full police escort at intersections provided by motor units (Harleys) from Lansing PD, MSU PD, DeWitt PD, and Leslie PD ( maybe others, but that's all I remember). It was different riding in formation with mostly Harleys and some similar metric cruisers, only one crotch rocket and a Gold Wing or two besides my scooter. Proud to say, I kept up with the big-boys just fine. Matter of fact, with all the accelerating & decelerating expereinced in the procession, the lack of clutch was really well-suited to my scooter. I heard complaints about the need to constantly change gears from some folks on traditional cycles, but I was good with throttle and brakes. My gas mileage was outstanding (not having to stop at lights or stop signs will do that) at 78 mpg for the trip. A novelty, if nothing else...and money spent for a good cause.
