My scooter got a lot of use this weekend. First it made a couple of grocery runs into Town to pick up bird seed and go to the bank.
Then I took it 40 miles roundtrip to the town of Sidney,NY to see the Hometown Days parade. The parade was the usual collection of Marching Bands, Fire Departments and floats from various groups. There was also some motorcycles and bicycles and a solo unicyclist. I always marvel at how the the sponsoring company knows to give the children bags to collect all the candy that comes flying their way. The bands were quite spectacular and I always wonder how young people can play music while marching. Typically I have trouble riding and chewing gum.
While I was there I saw a 1982 Yamaha 400 with 7,000 miles on it in better than fair condition. I saw an early 1980s Suzuki 425 or 450 also in good shape that the owner picked up cheap and is using every day. The trip home was uneventful even as I passed the spot where the valve spring let go two months ago. I have to admit it made me hold my breath.
The next day I went 50 miles roundtrip to an antique car show and flea market. You know what I can't stand? That they call the cars of my youth antiques! !964 Corvairs! I was 12 years old. !966 Chevies, I was 14 you Barbarians, how can they be antiques. I don't mind the 1932 Model As and cars from the early 1950s even. But a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda! That was the year I graduated High School. Where's the rules committee, I want to protest.
Anyway, the cars were lovely and even though I owned a couple of the cars they had, it was nice to see them all shiney and bright. There were motorcycles being judged, but nothing interesting and except for the 1951 Whizzer nothing I would call an antique.
The ride was great and the scooter ran like a sewing machine. Now that I've made 70 kph my limit we seemed to have attained peace. I even got waves from just about all the bike rider I saw, of course I waved first. My Barner head is working like a charm and the scoot pulled up hills like a cat. Overall I put about 100 miles on it this weekend and we had a lovely time together.
