So, whenever I am on here I notice the "paypal donate" button. I assume this means that we can donate to the forum? This forum has been a huge help to me over the last few months. I am sure as I begin having mechanical issues down the road it will be invaluable. I would love to support the forum however I can. But my question is What are the donations used for? How will my donation help? I assume there are starving scooterists somewhere in the world who cant afford helmets or something? : ) I'm sure there is some cost that goes into putting something like this together. Just curious how it works. Thanks.

Dawg has been having some computer issues lately and might not be able to chime in on this right away but I know he also pays to keep the forum free of the nuisance advertising you'll see on most other sites - like the google ads.
And I could be wrong about this part but I think that as the forum gets more visitors or page views per month, this cost (to keep it free of advertising) goes up.
I should probably point out as well that all the moderators are volunteers so any donations are not going to us.
Glad to hear the forum has helped you out Scootagent! It sure is a great resource!

It is an awesome resource! I found another forum more specific to my yamaha and vinos but haven't found much use for it so far. Other forums I've looked into related to my field of business have not had the moderators and support this one does. It was a terrible mess and I never want to go there again. this place is all positive, constructive, honest and I've found, very helpful. So, how much do folks usually donate? Probably a dumb questions "whatever the heck you feel like dumby!" Right? But still thats my question. : )

Yes, Dawg tries to keep the google ads off the forum, he does collect a few bucks from the QLink ad but that does not cover the cost of everything so the paypal button is there just in case a member has a couple extra bucks they do not need and want to contribute. Each and every dollar is appreciated.
This forum is not supported by a business that is turning a profit, it was the inspiration of the big Dawg, he does hope that someday the main page will be able to support the forum and become a a financial success, until then some of use chip in a buck here and there to keep it up and going.

Actually, I don't collect any $ for the QLINK or any other ads, although that should change soon. Also, I want to be very accurate. I don't pay to have this forum hosted but I do pay to keep google ads off and it's adding up as we grow and get more page views every month. Last month it cost $42 to keep the ads off. There are a lot of other expenses incurred that I try to offset with donations and sales of the Owner's Manual, such as the annual trek to the Dealer Expo, hosting the Scootdawg website with all the downloads. I've literally spent 1000's of hours getting this all going, although right now, I don't have the time I should due to health & job situations. I've never asked for donations other than to post the button making it an option for those who might want to pitch in a little. I did this because I love scooters. This forum was originally started as a place for 30-50 people but it I guess there were a few more people looking for something like this ;D and in less than 2 years, we are getting 300,000 page views per month. This means we are almost at the point where we can actually get real $ for ads & banners. I'm also working on other ways to make this so that it doesn't come out of my pocket and your donations. The Dawg account has a couple $100 right now and we are fine.

Hold up! You mean there is NO keg party? I want my money back! I don't get it... If everyone gives a few bucks a year, this topic doesn't need to be here. There is A LOT involved in starting and running one of these, and I think everyone should donate a few bucks every year... I did and so should you. Come on guys, how often do you piss away 10 or 20 bucks? The info and friends you make here are worth a whole lot more... thanks Lee.

Im wondering why you dont use a normal forum script and hosting. More features with something like vbulletin What? You must think this thing was started by somebody with real computer skills. This is homegrown and I don't want anybody to forget that. Twister, it doesn't look to me like you need any protection from smites for a while. What you need to do is quit looking at your karma. Just be yourself and let the good times roll! ;D
