I am wanting to get a 50cc scooter. I can avoid main roads for my commute to work, but I will still have to go through one major intersection... Unless I can legally drive the scooter *wherever* a bicycle can go, including over walk-over bridges.
I see people on bicycles all the time make left turns on this intersection.. I admit I'd avoid it on my bicycle by driving illegally on the sidewalk.. (If i actually took my bike to work) But what are peoples opinions of doing this on a scooter? Once I get through the intersection I'd not be too concerned about the ride.. I think the posted speed is 45mph..

Tortoise, you do realize the search feature is quite possible the worst part about this site. I one time road my scooter on a bike path to get up a large hill and there was only 1 biker in site.... i thought he would understand, but after the hill climb he came up to me and my buddy and said if he ever saw us again on his bike path he would perform a citizen's arrest. I told him that the bikes get to ride on the road all the time (super slow) why can't i borrow this path for 300ft? I thought it was funny apparently he didn't. We got reported.

lol, what did the report do? Or was it just him complaining with no real consequence?
I've walked my scooter up a bike path before to get to a cross street (the road I was on went underneath the cross street, the bike path went up to it on the side).

You don't state your location. In New York, a 50cc is a motor vehicle, and must obey all traffic laws, not bicycle laws. It can be ridden on any roadway that is not a "controlled access highway". That being said, you are taking your life into your hands if you do much driving of a 40 MPH vehicle on a 55 MPH road. It is legal, the speed limit is the max speed, not the min. But the drivers are liable to just run you over. I try to stick to roads that are 40 or 45 MPH max, as I can just about keep up. I also learned NOT to pull over onto the shoulder (legal to ride a 50cc on the shoulder in NY) to let cagers pass, the shoulders are full of debris that can flatten a tire or even dump you off the bike, and once you pull off the cagers will make a point to keep you off. Bike paths and sidewalks are totally off limits. However, I would walk my bike on a sidewalk to get past a bad traffic jam. Engine off.
