Hey Rocket...do the hi gloss black, no metalic, then put some irridescent green pearl in the clear coat..... Just stand back when the sun hits it!
Irridescent, red, blue or green pearls are outrageous when done over gloss black. Tlak about some fost flames.....WOW!

Gy6rocket, Using that very inexpensive mower muffler, I see that it comes .75" ID. Have you ever seen one that has an ID of 1.25" or 1.5". My straight pipe exhaust is way too loud, I am tired of ringing ears. I suddenly cannot hear my wife telling me of the day's chores What are you drilling out exactly on yours? I'm looking for an inexpensive muffler that'll fit my pipe 1.5" pipe. I love reading this thread, your scoot is freaking motivating.

was talkin with jackthefuzz....said a boneworthy suggestion. "these lil' mufflers crap-out after bout 6 months. So if you weld a nut to match the threads of the muffler to the header pipe all you have to do is unscrew 'em to replace.
This may help usfmarine as well being the "fit" is in issue. As far as drilling these mufflers out it makes 0 improvement as it is they have almost 0 backpressure. They are literally a quiet version of a straight pipe.
Rocket.....glad to see you came to your senses with the the swing arm. The longer axles are not tempered for a "mono shock". The 50cc output shaft will fit or a short case gy6 axle will fit. They are made that way.
I am now designing a tru mono shock swing arm for my next frame. I will look like a wish-bone with a very short single shock located centrally under the seat.
stay tuned.

Hrm, I used to run this muffler style on my minibikes for a couple years without problems, but time will tell. Dude that wishbone idea is killer! Only thing i foresee is the need for an additional locating bar where the shock attaches to the wishbone, that would connect to the front hinge mount of the engine to keep geometry correct. Otherwise the entire setup could "fold" frontward or backward. Awesome idea though, would love to see it implemented. So I did some more on the scoot, test fitting the panels back on and they all seem to fit good. Added a garage door opener with an external button on the console of the scoot, this will come in real handy. Added a nice mirror that is bar mounted to the end of the left grip. Works very well and I can see behind me without seeing my arm/shoulder. I installed a new front master cylinder and DOT4 brake fluid, bled the brakes and the front works really good now. To test it out I decided to try a brake torque and HOLY CRAP the strada can roast the rear tire with ridiculous ease. I could not believe how quick the tire started spinning and how much smoke came off it in the few seconds I did it! I'm sure the solid engine mount help's that out I'll have some more pics up soon!

Here are some more pix, sorry about the quality, my camera took a dump so I've been using my phone to photograph until I buy a new camera. Anyway I go the side arm reinstalled today, it's hard to tell from the picture but it has a really good wrinkle texture paint that matches the CVT and rocker cover. I'm happy with how it came out and how it looks on the bike. Also got the plate holder done, simple and lightweight .040 aluminum sheet and some more cap screws. Also got some more plastics installed. I've been riding it bare and have noticed having no front panels and only the floor boards causes a lot of wind resistance and it's harder to hit top speed. Put the panels back on and it cruises much better. I didn't think wind resistance would play that much of a role but with small CC engine every aspect counts. SO my next step is to install a D2S h.i.d. projector lens from Mercedes Benz donor. I think it's safe to say I will have the best headlight optics on scootdawg

Looks great, How do you like the handlebar set up? I'm sure it's just the pic but they look high. When do we get to see the headlight? A lot of inspiration here Thanks JR

Thx jrinlv, So far I am really liking the handlebars, since they are adjustable I can put them in a custom position to fit my riding style. I have to say they are much more comfortable than the stock version. Quite a bit wider also. FOr the time being I've just been running a raw HID lamp, no shroud or anything ;D Its near insane with the brightness. No good at night though as the light goes everywhere, it really needs a projector to control and focus all that light. The OEM reflector housing did an ok job modded up, but NOTHING like a projector will do. As soon as I get the projector i'll post some pics up. For now I am going to make the front plastic fairing and the clear plastic from the headlights 1 piece. I took her out for a good hour cruise yesterday, ran with a pack of motorcycles for a few miles, i got 4 or 5 people that started asking me about the bike at stop lights. Who makes that? was the most common question. I just told them all that I custom built it

I can't tell what size wheels you have there, but it raises a question I've been kicking around for a while now, which is can you take these racer style bikes and, if they were stock with 12" wheels, replace them with 16" wheels?

My wheels are 13" with a wide tire, I must say I've been putting some miles on the strada the last few days and the sticky Pirelli Tires and nitrogen shock has this scoot riding like a Cadillac. The ride is easily 10x better than last year on the OEM shocks and Kenda Tires. Which brings me to my next problem. WHY DO I LIKE TO BRAKE TORQUE SO MUCH!!!!! For some odd reason I feel the need to smoke the back tire in a childish burnout after many miles of running. I mean, I know I built it to be able to do simple smokey burnouts, but man my back tire was near melted from a good 20 second front brake, full throttle torque. It just does it so easy now I cannot help myself Although good news is the Pirelli seems to like it somewhat, as I can still barely see the center casting mark in the tire. I'll get some video so you guys can see what I'm putting this through. . . Oh yeah, I finally started to see the plastic fan shroud melting a bit near the closest point on the exhaust so that may be getting redone soon too. One last thing, I also noticed the police around the area have noticed the green machine while in motion, but they seem fine with its presence. That makes me happy as I am a cycle endorsed rider who is obsessively compulsive while riding in traffic.

LOL. I actually did some measuring on my bike earlier, and in order to put 16" wheels on, I'd need an additional 2" of clearance around the wheels, which I would have if I either moved or removed parts of my body paneling. It was just a thought.

hey numbski.....you can do it if you want. sometimes you have to dream a little dream with a cutoff wheel and a tig torch in each hand. NO FEAR.
rocket I am bummed about kliff. I am hoping he will be back. Ive talked to him on the phone once and he is a wealth of knowledge.
I like your scooter. true abot what you said about comments from other riders.....I have been offered cash for my scooter! It never ceases to make me laugh. I wanted to customize a scooter ever since I saw the first scooter videos on youtube about 9 mos ago. now that one is done I cant stop thinking the next.... are you still contemplating a 2 stroke? I wish I lived closer to you as we could collectively remedy the "swingarm scenario". I have been a little preocccupied with painting and this new laptop. I did get a call from from scooter depot and the new frame is on the way!!! I am going to really try to get this one right. What I mean is the next scoot will really be a piece of everything the gecko wants to be.
The frame will be HOT pink with matte black rims and ferrings. Hopefully mono shock. Have you seen the paddock stands for these scoots? I saw one yesterday with wheels on it for 90 dollars except I cant remember the website.
have you found the benz willing to donate a projector yet!!! gotta see this......emphasis on "see"!!! lol I have never really considered hid's yet.
well take it easy bro. Could you video a burnout for real. My favorite headd turner is when people at a gas station are looking at me fillin the gecko up with some 93 and I know they must be thinking..."hmm.... at least it looks fast but it is still a moped...what a waste"" .....then I pull a wheelie out of the gas station and I look back to see their eyes hanging out and thier jaw stuck open right before they smile in disbelief. The exhaust sounds raspy to match the whole effect.
anyway....have a good day.

Just the reinforced tubing, and it's holding up well so far.
I have not posted much because I have not been working on it, just been out riding it a lot. I am still trying to track down the projector for the headlamp and finish a few more things on it, since I had a small brush with the law and they pointed out a few things that need attention to be 100% legal :0

thx phase, I got stopped for doing 45 in a 50 (lol) running the moped tags. Officer was cool, actually think he just wanted to check out the bike! No tickets or anything but the officer told me I should re-register it as a motorcycle if I want to go over 30mph. As quick and nimble as the rocket is, trying to run from the cops would just make everything 10x worse because they would catch me eventually, then probably beat me down, arrest me, impound the bike, write me up for 10 things and take away my license, cycle endorsement and all! Instead I got to BS with a cool cop for 10 minutes and was on my way. Good thing is this happened a few cities over by county sheriff, as the local police where I live could care less about mopeds even if your doing 60 with no helmet!

So you guys are really having no problem with you carb not being level. I took along time to fab a pipe at just the right angles so the carb sat all level, just to think of all the time I wasted. both projects are killer, I love the case breather kliff. JR

I have the same exhaust as gy6rocket, I would say it's a little louder be not too bad at all. I did just run into a problem with my exhaust bolt stripping out but I don't think it has anything to do with the setup. Good luck JR

Well my friend from Florida stayed over this weekend and got some good action shots with his iPhone! He also had an app call "dynolicious" which calculates a bunch of stats on your machine by entering the weight and doing a 0-60 run. Anyway dynolicious app calculated that the gy6 was running 11 hp based on the numbers. It also had a ton more specs I will have to get my bud to send me the #'s. I decided to have a little fun and document how far I can get the front wheel off the ground if I put my weight in the right spot. It's so easy to lift up the front if I put my right foot on the luggage rack and give 'er some some gas. Before I hear all the "squid!" remarks I assure you I rarely ride without gear or a helmet. These wheelies were under 5mph in a parking lot, they may look faster because they are action shots, but I was actually riding this wheelie yawningly slow I don't recommend you try this at home, I've been riding and stunting bikes since I was 10 years old, and balance is usually learned the hard way The bad part about pulling the wheel up this high is coming back down, you can see how compressed the front suspension is in this picture, I'm not going to make a habit out of this! Good thing my gas tank is in the right sport otherwise this riding angle would have starved the engine for fuel with the OEM setup. Some pix of the bike, post stunt session. And back from page 1, the request for my '08 dakota V8 picture (the other toy)

Yeah, I am debating about an aluminum design that would be cargo and foot friendly Maybe put some small skateboard wheels on there so I could really ride 12 o'clock! lol
