My Qlink hawk 50 has 500 miles on it and the belt is already slipping. It vibrates and squeals at takeoff. Its still under warranty but the dealer is so far away.Is this something i can replace fairly easily myself?

Replacing a belt is pretty easy but with those symptoms at 500 miles I would suggest taking off the CVT cover first and having a look inside. You can measure your belt's width to see how much it's worn. There should be a number on the belt somewhere. Mine is 788 17 28. The middle number is the width of your belt when new. It should be within around 1mm fo that number.

Most definitely. It takes roughly 15 minutes.
First take off the CVT cover (the panel where the kickstart is). There should be 10 bolts holding it on. Make sure you remember where each one goes because they are different sizes. When you take it off check out everything and make sure it's clean. If your belt is worn, chances are there is a lot of rubber dust inside the cover and it will need to be cleaned out. The next step would be to remove the variator fan. I'm guessing your motor is a 1e40qmb in which case the nut will be 17mm. Use an impact wrench for this. If you don't have one, an adjustable oil filter wrench will do the trick in holding the variator still. Make sure to remember where each part goes as you take it off. I like to line everything up and then when putting things back together to just work in reverse. From here, your belt will come off with ease. Put your new belt on and you'll be ready to go.

That Hawk 50 is a nice scoot. The CVT cover has a good cooling. (alot of scoots have non) The belt should of lasted for ever. Something not right. I would CRY to the Dealer. (never Know-- Piss you off lose the next sale for a $25 part) Belts do Vib. Squeals ??
