In pa at least while taking your riding test for a licence you will come across a question .... What causes the most deaths on a motorcycle . In Pa or any other part of the WORLD the correct answer has been for as long as I, or anyone else on this site has been, being hit by an automobile . The NEW PC answer is now of course drunk driving . This pissed me off for the poor new rider now thinks .. hey as long as im not drunk im ok and lets his guard down a little, possibly getting hurt or killed because a politician wanted support from MADD or something of the like . .. I seensome stats on accidents last year. Alcohol was involved in a good percentage of accidents , but it didn't distinguish who was drinking. If a car with a drunk driver hit a MC it was just listed as alcohol involved in the accident. So the numbers could be twisted by any group. My take is during the summer months a lot of people will ride to picnics and parties so yeah maybe that has an impact on those stats. But for the last couple years I saw a massive increase of crotch rockets wrapped around poles or trees. And most of them were in their first year of their license. So I do understand your frustation. When I took the MSF we were told that and most accidents were caused by cars making left hand turns. Quite a contradiction.

Curiousity.. Did they tell you that they wernt supposed to tell you as a police officer , but , it is very important that a motorcyclist should ride 5mph FASTER than traffic to lessen the time in a cars blindspot Jake

Only bad thing is that around here that means about 20 over the speed limit, which puts you in a very high risk speed zone, not just a ticket, but points too I think. Aero

Staying out of blind spots does not require going faster than traffic.
