Do you all use anything on your cylinder base gasket as a sealant? I was thinking of using a thin layer of copper coat but i didnt, just a base gasket. I was looking over my scoot this morning and noticed oil under the motor. It looked like it was coming from the cylinder base, but after looking closer i traced it to my intake leaking around the side of the cylinder base making the cylinder appear to be what is leaking. Im only on the third tank of fuel with this cylinder, with a mix of 32:1. It sure seems like alot of leaking, this thing was clean yesterday. I couldnt help but wonder if i should pull the cylinder back off and use some sealant. I read that one should, and i read one shouldnt. What do you think? thanks

I've used base gaskets with and without any type of sealant. A little coppercoat certainly won't hurt, but I'm not sure that it's necessary for you to disassemble your engine for a lack of it. It depends if it really does appear to be coming from the cylinder or if you still think it's the intake. An intake leak should be causing driveability issues though. I believe torqueing the cylinder/head properly (13ftlbs) and giving it a once over after the engine has been heat cycled is important as well.

I started it this morning to go let my friends dog out a couple of blocks away and noticed an unsteady idle up and down, ran a little funny to. I think i have a intake leak, so im going to take it off and look before i run it anymore. I will pull the cylinder and copper coat the base gasket just to rule that out also. Thanks again
