The mechanic says he is almost 100% sure my acceleration and top end speed problem is my stator. He saw the lights are not bright unless i rev engine, and the fact battery needs charging frequently. Does this sound correct as i just ordered stator and will also replace coil with racing coil? Also since i have the vog 260 how difficult is it to access the stator? Mechanic said does not take long once you get to it.
thanks! Maurice

Hey maurice, I'm not sure about the Vog but just a heads up, I had exactly the same problems and I followed the 3 yellow wires from my stator and wound up inside a covered wire harness and found this might be something to look for good luck and let us know how you make out

That melted conector, well it tells me 2 things. 1. Bad ground and now 2. a bad stator going by that photo. What a shame that most grounds are on painted metal.

sooo, are dim lights the only symptom for bad strator?

I think it's normal for all scooter to have brighter lights when you rev the engine.
Are yours abnormally dim?

i am not sure if they are abnormally dim. Mechanic said that it is not normal. Wondering what other symptoms other than dim lights.

There was a thread some time ago that someone gave what each leg of the stator should read. I honestly can't remember what they were. Maybe somebody remembers. As far as dim lights, mine did that when I first got it. Under the front cowl are the plugs, I while running I reached in and jiggled some of the plugs and when I did that they brightend right up. Was actually two plugs marked with a 3 for the front lights. From those two I narrowed down to which one was the cause and from there I checked the three wires and found one that when the connector is put together the female end was pushing the male out. When you check these plugs they may be tight but the connectors inside may not. That is probably what happened to my stator wire plug in the photo. It had some connection but not a good one. So check your plugs carefully and if someone can post the current for each leg of the stator check that. Also maurice, due to that burnt plug from my stator charging was intermittent. So I straight wired all three wires and installed a volt guage and have travelled many thousand miles with nodda a problem. When I start my scoot my lights are dim for only a couple seconds and then they are solid they don't dim and brighten as i rev. Good luck

thanks for the indepth post manfunsalow. Mechanic is already going to replace stator, and it may just be a connection, as he just told me stator was loose. there ya go. i decided to replace anyway because if looseness was not the problem, has to reopen and lots of labor again. I don't think mechanic either has tools to check voltage or wants to. othewise he would have said he would check to see if i really needed one. But lights definitely dim and top end speed lower 25mph, he thinks it is stator. or coil which was replaced as well.
