DEad battery or poor battery or solenoid or starter or ground connection. Try charging or jumping off.

I bought a new moped yesterday and I was wondering something, the guy I bought it from says he messed with the pipe to get it to go faster. It is a 2008 Roketta moped. It is a 2 stroke 49cc and it goes about 50 mph top speed. I asked him if since he messed with the pipe will the engine go bad faster. He said no, not at all. Is he correct?

He could be. As long as your engine is in proper tune the pipe shouldn't make any major difference in engine reliability. The pipe may increase your maximum RPM a little, which could have a small effect. I wouldn't worry about that.

Is it a stock pipe or an aftermarket tuned pipe? Pics?

I'm glad you got yourself another scooter with a variable ratio transmission. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but aren't those chain drive transmissions like mikey32142's Qingqi really direct drive with a clutch that will slip kind of like a torque converter under heavy load conditions such as on hills. The oil in the case helps dissipate the heat when this happens. It also lubricates the chain and rear gears. I wish Kargo27 (Karl) was still around. He used to have A Geeley like one of these I believe.

I think you're right.
I was looking for a diagram of the transmission and saw a post about someone getting a Quinqi up to 46MPH. It had a big bore kit and some other mods and apparantly a slight tailwind at the time. The owner said it was still slow taking off.

It's prob worth $200, but I don't know about much more. It looks like it's seen better days.

There should be 3 boxes below the thumbnail of your images in photobucket. The bottom should say "IMG Code". Copy that and paste it in your message for each image you wish to post. 640x480 is the preferred size for posting on this forum. When you upload pics there is an option to resize as they are uploaded. If you forget that, photobucket will let you resize them later as well.

Nice looking scoot. It looks like a good deal for $400 to me. I believe that's a 4 stroke 49cc 139QMB engine. The muffler should be fine. If I'm right and that's a 139QMB, either your speedometer is off or it's got more mods than just a hollow muffler. The trunk is probably right.

I agree with 90GT. Have someone in a car (with factory size tires) follow you and tell them to see how fast it will go. Tell them you will raise your hand when you have it topped out (on level ground with very little wind hopefully). Your speedometer may be graduated in kilometers per hour in which case 55 kph would be about 34 mph. I like the fact that you have a tachometer. Most likely your tach will show about 8000 - 8500 rpm at top speed. For it to do 55 mph the tach would probably have to read above 11,000 rpm. I used to have a scooter with this 4 stroke motor and it's pretty hard to get them to go over 45 mph without a big bore kit/bigger carb/exhaust. I hope you can go 55 mph but if you can your scoot has a bigger motor than 50cc and you are very lucky indeed.

Well, on the speedometer it says kilometers in big numbers and mph in smaller numbers. I have got it to 55 mph on flat surface.

What did the tach say at the time you hit 55?

The speedometer on my scoot is in km and it said I was doing just over 100KPH (62MPH) while going through a radar sign that said I was doing 50MPH. I've gone through that same radar probably 10 times and never been near what the speedometer says. Chinese scooter speedometers are notorious for being inaccurate. I'm not saying they are all way off though. In fact, my other Triton is an American version marked in MPH. It reads only a couple of MPH too fast.

my girlfriend was behind me and she said i was doing about 48 when the speedometer said 52 or so. So im guessing it gets up to that at least

That's a quick little 4 stroke then. I think that thing is modded more than you know. At that rate you definitely got one heck of a deal. ;D

I still think it's like I said before... the added RPM from an engine that's running strong may cause a little extra wear and tear but nothing to be concerned about with what you're dealing with. Otherwise, as long as it isn't running lean it is probably fine. Being a 4 stroke just make sure you do periodic oil changes and of course don't premix the fuel or anything lol.

what do you mean running lean?>
|
|
|
Post by 90GTVert on Mar 23, 2009 19:02:22 GMT -5
Lean means there is not enough fuel in the air/fuel mixture. Fuel helps to keep the engine cool, so if it runs lean it can run hot. Heat is a definite cause of premature engine failure. If someone has tuned it to run that fast they probably have made sure the carburetor's jetting is correct. Not necessarily though. Just pull your spark plug out sometime and see how it looks. White = Lean/Hot, Black = Rich/Cold, Tan = Good

What is this? I know its not where brake fluid goes? I can't really get it open, and i dont want to mess with it.
