Anyone have a dc powered cdi ? Mine is on a 1PQMJ157 and has 4 wires in the connector I am trying to find some info on these My other 150 engine is a QMJ157 and only 3 wires go in the connector I am told this sysyem is ac powered and the most common CDI"s are not interchangable between the 2 systems Wille shopping for a replacement, no distributors specify ac or dc I am looking for info on the differences in the two systems and availability of dc units

Ok Dawgs, time to enlighten this old dawg again. I was under the impression that the CDI was fed a signal voltage from the stator that told it when to feed a higher voltage to the coil for multiplying the voltage for firing the spark plug. The stator also putting out a/c voltage to some of the headlamps and to the regulator which also converts the a/c to d/c. Now, along comes a d/c cdi? How does that work. Anyone? Thanks for all the previous educating done here, and the entertainment also. Garyr

Thats what Im askin
"There two DIFFERENT CDI systems. One is AC driven and one is DC driven. They are not compatible. The DC ones are easy to spot. One the connector that goes to the CDI the DC units have all four wires being used. The AC ones on have three"
Thats the only response I've gotten- from a reliable source
Yo pedez, You say you can get the part, can you enlighten me on the difference? Any wiring diagrams ?

Most of the chinese stators, 3 or 4 wire are all AC, some are even 3 phaze. There are some DC, and there are some DC that just supress half of the AC making it a DC.
DC is possible to be mechanically produced, as wind turbines most often put out DC to be inverted to AC for power consumption. What ones are what, I'm not sure. And I don't know who to even trust on the subject. I have seen several self proclaimed experts not agree on the subject.
I have seen this subject debated on a forum among dealers that have been in this for a decade or better, and the truth is, no-one is too sure except the Big 4 companies. The chinese that design these bikes limit their support to barely providing the parts. The guys that designed it to begin with, have a language, cultural and timezone barrier to communicate with the bozos (like me ;D) over here trying to service & upgrade the scoots we ride.
