I have the opportunity to pick one up from a friend super cheap with just a few hundred miles on it. I really love the fact its a 2-stroke but can't find much info out on it. He purchased it new in 07.
Has anyone heard if this is a decent scooter?
It looks great and has never been put down. He is going to sell it to me for $1000. Is this a good deal for this scooter?

Piaggio is an Italian company that makes Vespa, Aprilia, Derbi, Gilera and more. They are one of the largest manufacturers of 2 wheelers in the world. It should be a quality scooter. MSRP is $1,999 on that model. Sounds like a good deal, but I'd still try to offer him a little less. It never hurts to try.

Thanks. Does this 2-stroke scooter work like my old 2-stroke suzuki? Meaning do I have a separate reservoir for the oil and the engine mixes it for me or do i need to pre mix the fuel?

It says it has oil injection, most modern scoots do. Another cool thing about this scoot is that it's smaller and lighter than some. Dry weight is listed at 178lbs, whereas my Triton's are 207lbs. I see it rated at 71.8 of 100 HERE, higher than a lot of scoots.

Make sure you find out what cc it is before you buy it. Below 50cc is usually a motor scooter or moped class and above 50cc is motorcycle class. Above 50cc means you will need a motorcycle license, registration, and insurance that a 49cc may not require. You'd have to check your local laws to be sure, I only know Maryland's.

Yes. In Ohio you need a motorcycle license for anything 1 hp or more. I have the endorsement since i ride a motorcycle most the year but this will be nice for the wife and myself for short errands and just all around fun. I will probably sell my wifes Roketa 50cc scooter since I am sure this one is much nicer and just let her have the Piaggio.

The Piaggio Typhoon is a quality scooter. It has the same engine as a Vespa ET2 and my Derbi Atlantis (Spanish made). My Derbi would run 48 mph derestricted. A Zuma derestricted does good to do 38. The Typhoon is very similar to the Zuma with meaty 10" tires. I ran the piss out of my Derbi with a performance pipe (55mph tucked) and it held up well. My only beef was with the rubber intake manifold. It cracked (my fault probably because I didn't support my bigger carb and hi flow air filter properly) and caused me to cook a couple of kitted pistons with lean mixtures. I finally JB welded it all over and supported the carb and filter better with satisfactory results.
Even at $1000.00 you can't go wrong with the 'Phoon.

One other thing I found lacking on these engines is the puny cylinder studs. They are only 5.3mm in diameter. I replaced them with some from a Mineralli type 1E40QMB which are at least 1mm thicker.
