Man, if you haven't already, you should check out the British mag, "Scootering."
It is 90% 2 stroke. Lambretta and Vespa mostly.... but some of the "hot rod" smokers are out of this world!
KTM 250 top ends on Lambretta cases, full on KTM engine swaps, home SCRATCH engine builders...from casting the cases on up!
And for us "strokers" Suzuki DRZ400 powerred scoots....man they are nutz over there! ;D

I saw something posted about that mag and it looked like all Italian scoots so I had no interest. Your description doesn't sound like some Vespa snob magazine though. Sounds crazy. Thanks for the heads up. +1 Bone for that one. They've got some content online... www.scootering.com/ EDIT : Ouch! I think I'll browse what I can online for right now. It is $79 for a 1 year subscription. I pay about $10 for a year of 5.0 Mustang And Super Fords.

This reminded me of a scoot that I saw and meant to post here a little while ago. It's a built from scratch 2 stroke drag scooter that used a twin cylinder Minarelli style engine. Amazing scoot. magazine.maxiscoot.com/Francais/Atelier/Projects/Dragster-2EVIL/Here's a Babel Fish translation of the page... " It is from now on an immutable tradition at MXS Custom, each New Year's Day sees being born a new prototype. We traditionally present it at the beginning of year during the great festival of the tuning which is Paris Tuning Show. Always more extremely, increasingly more insane, with you of judge if these machines of races out-standards deserve really their place on the most beautiful circuits of Europe. 2009 will be thus, one can ensure it to you, the year of the “2Evil”!!! Left big brother of already well-known “dragster N.O.S 2008”, the “2Evil” hardly leaves, any heat, of the same tortured spirits as the precedent: that of the mechanic-originators of MXS Custom. The increasing level in year competition by year, Maxiscoot was to innovate as regards Dragster prototype. In the only one constraint, schedule of conditions: to traverse 0-150m in less 5,99sec (our best time during last season, and of Europe!) while remaining on a basis of engine of scooter with automatic variation. The “driving” objective the main thing being him to exceed the 50 horses with the wheel… We have choose the category “with the top of 100cc” for this prototype. With this intention we carried out an intermediate aluminium CNC casing, in order to be able to place two cylinders in line, which we will make it possible to reach the 50 horses desired by adding up a cubic capacity of only 172cc. With regard to the engine part, we left on a basis engine “Piaggio” (DNA to be precise), on which we grafted two new cylinders Stage 6 R /T 86cc (prototype exclusive), assembled on a casing cut in the mass entirely designed by our offices of MXS Custom, two Stage6 crankshafts in race of 44mm (prototype), two Stage6 lightings, two complete admissions Stage6 (with carburettors of 28mm), a pack Malossi “Overrange”, a Stage6 clutch and its Stage6 bell, like two mufflers “ROOST” entirely carried out to measure as Slovakia, just for our prototype! On the level of the part cycles we used as with our practice, the possible maximum of aluminium, in order to reduce the weight of the machine. The whole entirely carried out in and by our workshops of MXS Custom. The rim postpones out-standards absolutely is when with it resulting from an American machine of dragster, imported and especially adjusted for our prototype. With all that, the “2Evil” will not fail to attract the glances on the races of “run” of this year 2009 because let us not forget it, beyond the exercise of style, this démoniaque machine is especially intended for the race and will have thus to be shown as effective as beautiful. Appointment on the circuits! Your team MAXISCOOT!"
