Hey everyone, I would appreciate it if sum1 would tell me what they think may be wrong with my moped and suggest what i should do. Ok, The moped is a QingQi moped. I dont know what year it is for sure. Its probably somewhere in the 90's. It is a 49cc moped. It is of course ran by gas and is a two stroke.
These are the problems. I purchased this moped from a guy a few days ago. It is still cold here, so keep that in mind. The moped started right up and it revved great and everything. I was riding it home and its acceleration takes about 10 seconds to get to 5-7 mph. Keep in mind im also not a fat guy. It also topped its max speed at about 15-17 mph. Now I know a moped can go at last 25-30 mph. So those are 2 problems. The guy said it is probably because the clutch needs oil. So, Im going to oil it soon here. Anyways i was on my way home when the moped shut off and wouldnt start back up. I called him and he said it probably was the battery. He was nice enough to drive there and charge it and get it started by spraying some starter fluid into the starter and using the choke. Well, needless to say, the moped shut off again about 4 minutes later. I was close enough to just walk it home. Ever since i got it home i have not been able to start it. I bought a new battery for it, spray it with starter fluid, pump the choke, no matter what i do it doesnt start. Please, if anyone can help me with my moped, I would greatly appreciate it. My email is michael.knowles@hotmail.com.

Check your fuel lines and vacuum lines for cracks, clogs, and make sure everything is connected. Make sure the fuel filter isn't clogged. Pull the spark plug out and see what it looks like. You can check for spark by hooking the spark plug to the plug wire and holding the metal area of the plug against a ground and then kick/crank the engine over. While the spark plug is out, hold your thumb over the spark plug hole and kick/crank the engine over briefly. You should feel a lot of pressure that tries to blow your thumb off of the hole. Check the condition of the air filter as well.
