Sorry it took so long, I ran outta gas and had to push my scoot 3 miles to the gas station. Ok, this is it: Your scoot at the highest point in some county. The first photo is the one. With the sign in the background. The rest were taken to show the place. That's Grand Rapids WAYYYYYY back there. At night it is spectacular! The sign did not stop me from going up there for a few photos though.

That is an awesome tag indeed!!! I wanted to do one like that but I havn't gotten my scoot up to any kind of elevation yet. I lol'd at the 'no vehicular traffic due to budgetary reasons" though haha...

I got hit by a Nissan Titan going 45. This is what I decided to do to make it look a bit more roadworthy in the aftermath. I'm not done yet though, I have to finish the floor as I have only done a few bends in it (it is going to wrap underneath on the sides), and I am designing a tail for it out of treadplate and considering a fairing too. Yeah the battery is really ugly, it is supposed to sit under the floor but it is out of my KLR and is too tall. I'm going to get a proper scoot battery soon...
My GF swore that the sign didn't say that the county was too broke to open the gate. There is a good road up to the top, and picnic tables with trash cans. I guess they don't want to pay for a guy to drive all the way out there to open and close the gate. Its a good 30 mile drive from the city, and marks the halfway point to the cottage I babysit. I stop to take a smoke break and for a cool down every trip.

An awesome tag for sure, now regardless of whether I get it or not I am dang curious! Looks like I've got quite a hunt to go on though.... my county's high ground isn't quite as profound: www.cohp.org/nc/Wake_1.html

You could try one of the neighboring counties like Durham, Franklin, Nash, Harnett... they look close on a map. It does not have to be your county, just a county's high point..

That tag is not fair the highest point in all the surrounding counties is not accessible by anything but helicopters around here. I live 4000 feet higher than your county's high point...

It would be a blast to take a day trip to a neighboring county to explore, coincidentally my Fall Break from school starts tomorrow Depending on how it pans out with these t-storms/weather tomorrow I'll figure something out, but this tags got me really excited. I just am hoping to find something more glamorous than me parked in front of somebody's house with a GPS screenshot of the highest elevation in my county

FINALLY!!! I had to goto Durham today which is far beyond my normal journeys as it is, so I made it all the way out to my planned spot. Occoneechee Mountain is not only the highest point in neighboring Orange county, but I believe in the entire eastern half of NC. I had no idea such a place (or elevation) existed within 50 miles of where I live!!! www.geology.enr.state.nc.us/county/county_high_points.htmlNew tag, "Cage Rage" - any place near, in, or around (or in this case, the easy way out, above) a hella lot of traffic

@stiv: How was the drive out there? dragonsparks: Thanks, I prefer the marrow anyway. It was an awesome ride! I actually was pleasantly surprised how nice scooting through Durham was, especially downtown. I think I saw more scooters on Wednesday's 80 mile trip than my 200mi weekly commute here in Raleigh. The ride from Durham all the way out to Orange Co. is really rural and scenic. I'm glad I made this trip - I will be back to this spot. The trail hike was great in of itself - Occoneechee is quite tall for around here and has an amazing view (it's right next to I-85 so there is a large clearing and it feels like a real mountain lookout!).

Btw to exact my earlier claim... each of the 3 counties to the north or west of Orange do have higher points but there are none higher than Occoneechee to the south or east (where I live) towards the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks again for the great tag, psychedelicode. I am hoping to ride out to visit some friends in the Smoky Mountains after I get my BBK installed, broken in, and tuned. Perhaps highest point in a state will be coming soon

When you head over, give me a heads up. I can take you on a tour. Maybe swap stories and such? What size BBK are you installing?

Just hiked Roan Mtn, NC/TN this weekend with some friends. Friday was possibly the best day of the year to be out there... perfect weather, just about peak of fall above 5000 ft, etc... I ordered a 50mm (83cc) BBK & performance cam last week so any day now I'll be tearing into my scooter and we'll see how it takes to the hills after that. Might need a little break-in period before shes ready to tackle Appalachia I'm lucky enough to have a diff friend driving out to Cullowhee this weekend, should be incredibly beautiful. I'll def hit you up when I'm tearing through that way on the scoot!!

Wow, 4 trips out in rush hour, and still not enough traffic for a good picture. I came up with a few shots for later tags though... I'll try again this afternoon.

Finally I got time to take a pic of some cages in mass. This is rush hour between Santa Fe and points north. If the cars on the road are not enough, the couple hundred in that casino should be. Here's the new tag Now if we made it a rock shaped like an animal it would be too hard. So the tag is something unique that is rare to find anywhere else but is something the locals in your area pass all the time. It cold be natural or man made. bonus if it is made of rock/stone. So tag your it

This is a natural spring less than a mile from downtown Tampa. Not common elsewhere, and not only do people pass it everyday, most don't even know it is here. When I was walking back up to the scoot, a man had stopped and was looking down at the spring from near where I was parked. He said he had lived here for 50 years and never knew the spring was there. This went un-tagged last October, let's try it again. 2 weeks left until Halloween, find a pumpkin patch:
