From Kent, of the St Pete Scooter Club:
The term `Target` can apply to many things. It could be a curb, pedestrian, car, dog or anything you wouldn't enjoy interaction with while on your bike. The term `Fixation`is just what it implies. In our case it would be an unwavering, constant view of the `Target` we would like to avoid. ALWAYS, look where you want your bike to go.... No matter what. Will post more on this later.

More on target fixation:
Our hands are hard-wired to our eyes. Some areas are more `Target Rich` than others, or are they? In town and neighborhoods you are going to have the kids, dogs, cages... The normal stuff.
I`m in the habit of giving a couple of beeps and a friendly wave to the kids to let them know I`m there, whether it looks like they see me or not. Has saved some potential problems.
The same usually works for dogs. Believe it or not, a lot of dogs seem smarter(more aware)than most kids!*
Cages don`t even know we exist. When a couple of them have decided to play bumper cars, EVERY other car nearby is looking at that...Nothing else! Stay out of their blind spot. Blast past that zone(with caution)or drop back. Don`t ever think you can ride WITH them. Bad move for sure. I will often flip the hi beams a couple of times when approaching an intersection regardless if it`s a residential area or highway. Can`t hurt!
