I installed everything to spec for the 3rd or 4th time earlier and this damn thing just will not turn over. I cranked the engine and i heard a bubbling sound along with the cranking but nothing that really sounded like it wanted to go. I know everything is right and nothing is bent or screwed up in any way, most of this this is brand new. anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be.

Could the battery not have enough juice to start it. In the mornings here when it real cold I have to jump mine off. It'll turn over and sound great but doesn't have enough to start it. Try hooking up a jump box to it and see if it cranks.

I couldn't get mine to start with the electic starter when I installed a big bore kit until after I had dialed in the carb. For some reason a good swift kick on the kick starter would do the job.

There's more compression so I believe the starters not strong enough for it. Now when I get mine to crank it'll start everytime after that.

I am truly stumped.
It has to be in the assembly as you basically have all new parts on the top end. I wish you lived closer to my shop so I could take a look at it for you. I would pull the entire thing apart and start over from step 1.

If he hasen't ran it yet, could he take it back down and reuse the gaskets or have to get new ones??

Sounds like mine with the electric starter before I got the carb tuned in or I got the new piston and cylinder broke in, not sure which it is. Took me the better part of 100 miles to get the carb tuned in. Wouldn't start to save it's life with the electric start when cold. WIth the 38 idle jet I've got the fuel mixture screw turned 1/4 turn out from seated With the 35 idle jet i had to turn the fuel mixture screw 3 1/2 turns out and I was afraid it would fall out. I'd probably try spraying some starter fluid or brake cleaner in the intake and see if you can get fire.

What's usually stock for the pilot jet, 35? Or does it depend on the model

ok so today i tore the engine down again just to make sure all is right, checked the timing, valve clearane and other things that i now cant remember what they were, i pumped the kick starter and after all that i get nothing. after i get off work in the morning(graveyard shift tonight) i will hook the battery up to the car and jump it. hopefully i can get something. other suggestions would still be great to hear.

Spray a little carb cleaner into the carb to get the fuel system primed. Also check your spark.

how would you suggest i check the spark, is there anything specific i need to do with this engine/spark plug

You could go about the old fashion way and hold it to the frame and turn it over and see if you get a spark. I'd let someone else hold it for you and not the miss's

so the plug is in the plug wire but not installed in the engine itself and i hold the plug-wire combo to the frame and if i see a spark arching that is fine correct

yep, if no spark you might have a bad plug or coil. If no spark from plug stick a screwdriver in the plug boot and hold it to the frame, turn over the motor and see if a spark comes off the screwdriver. If no spark check all the wires going to coil if there hooked up it's probably the coil.

i guess all i can hope for now is that it is not a bad coil, at least a bad plug i have another of plus i just dont have any more money to waste on this thing

Don't stop now, cost of a new coil is cheaper than scrapping the project...you have too much time in and are on the verge of success, I'm sure.

i think a new coil is only about $15-20 but it is just a bit frustrating that i have not had this thing running for a few weeks now, at this point what else could go wrong is what i am thinking. i have already told my wife that once i get this thing running i am gonna be selling it for a bigger bike, 250 or bigger, most likely it will also be a bit older as well.

ok, definately have a spark, ver easy to see that i do, and once again set the timing properly, as i try and turn the engine over i hear the started and magneto spin up and i hear a "blub blub blub" sound as it cranks but still no go. i have also tried to kick start the engine but also nothing. also got some prestone premium starting fluid and sprayed it into the carb and even adjusted the idle screw. what else you got for me fellas. seems like i am kind of out of luck on this here.

Three things you need to double check.
Compression Spark Fuel
If all of those are good it will run.

I have seen fuel and sparks how can i "see" compression?
