Today, I had the great fortune to honor our American heroes and ride with "the big boys".
The "Brazoria County Cavalry", from Brazoria County, Texas, is a group of bikers who have 3 big loves in their lives; God, country and motorcycles.....in that order I was told.
A local veteran has erected a wood fence surrounding his property that has a white cross for every soldier killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hurricane Ike blew the fence over and these bikers helped rebuild it for him. Today, several veteran's organizations, the Brazoria County Calvary, a local Civil War Militia, The Buffalo Soldier's Museum and many, many more honored the local veteran by erecting and dedicating a flag pole on his property. He was also given a U. S. flag and a Killed In Action flag for the pole.
I have read about and seen the Brazoria County Cavalry in action. Because I only ride a 49cc scooter I have never attempted to ride with them or join their forces. Today, the route they were taking was all 30 mph so I thought, "why not?" I pulled into the congregating parking lot and asked if they would allow a scooter to ride with the Harley, Honda's and Kawasaki's.
Their only reply was, "Do you love this country?" When I gave a resounding "Yes" a handshake was extended. The next question was, "Are you a vet?" I am and replied so. They escorted me to the "vet line" of bikes and then the masses came over to introduce themselves to me. I was excited t indoctrinate these guys into the world of scooting.
The ceremony and bike ride made for the most enjoyable day I have had in quite a while.
I only wish I had taken my camera!!
Next time......
