Is it possible to push start a Chinese 150 scooter with the CVT transmission? If so, how fast would it have to go to make the clutch engage and turn the engine over.
I ask because recently my scooter battery went dead, and I realized the kick starter had fallen off the engine, so I had no options that I knew of.

The engine needs to be turning roughly 2,000 RPM to engage the clutch. Doesn't matter how fast the wheel is turning.

It won't happen pushing the scoot.

Thanks guys, for the help. The moral of the story is, don't let the kick start lever fall off.

My scoot has started when I was going 30ish and hit the kill switch. I did a test one time ran up to 30 hit the kill waited a few seconds then flipped the kill back. If you are going fast enough to engage the clutch the engine will start. I see 2 options here: 1. Pair of vise grips appropriately positioned on kick start lever. 2. A really big hill

Charge the battery & replace the kickstart lever. Don't use visegrips, or you may damage the spline that holds the kickstart.
It is possible to jumpstart it off of a non-running car. I would only do this in an emergency, as I have seen several batteries fried from repeatedly doing this.

Lol, I remember doing this back when I was a teenager trying to get a buddies junked out 50cc to start. The only way I know of is to remove the CVT cover and lock the clutch mechanically somehow. We did it with a bolt, and dragged it behind a car to really get the engine spinning, and it actually started.
Bad part is this makes the scoot "direct-drive" so if you stop it will stall the engine.
Anyway after getting it running for awhile we removed the bolt and all was good.

Given the difficulty encountered changing the belt due to having to immobilize the variator, I imagine attaching a drill driven socket of the appropriate size and running it clockwise would start the bastard up.
put it on the centerstand, remove the cover and give it a try... just sdont forget to put the "kill switch" in the "ON" position, and have some one hold the brake...

IF YOU DON'T KEEP BETTER UP WITH THAT BIKE MORE THEN A KICK START MIGHT FALL OFF.

A really big hill the engine had already engaged the clutch, the reason it worked. if the engine is not turning the clutch will not engage, ever, no matter how big the hill. hell, you could pull it with a Ferrari and it won't work.

Also don't try this stunt, I nearly skidded out doing this. At the top of a hill, with the engine idling, I rolled down and see how fast I can coast. The reason is if you're going at speed and the engine is idling and you give it gas the clutch will engage and you'll instantly be engine breaking and it can lock up you rear tire.

Is that possible? Can anyone else confirm?

yep, when the engine and cvt engage the clutch it starts in the lower gear ratio before coming up to speed. think of it like first gear when it needs to be third. it will lock up the tire depending on speed and surface.

you can buy the kickstart lever for $14 @ any chinese scoot online parts dealer...and use locktite on the locknut to prevent it from falling off again.
if you have stripped the splines, welding a straight piece of bar to it is the only ghetto solution....otherwise you need to buy both parts.
and nope, you cannot push start the scooty...
hey josh,,if you were stupid 20 years ago. what do you call yourself now??...LOL,LOL,,honestly i haaaave no idea..lol ;D

Ya, it was possible on the old Cushman scooters, but they had a hand clutch and a left foot shifter. The Chinese scooters are all automatic and a centrifical clutch built into the tranny.. So there is no way to push start a chinese scooter..

Saw a guy the other day with a pull start pulley from a lawn mower on the fan side... simple... just a slotted hub and a length of cord and a wooden hangle... worked like a charm...looked like he extended the crankshaft
Anything is possible

Wrong kind of scooter. We're talking street legal scooters here with gasoline powered engines not razor scooters and the like. Unusual first post with a link smells like spam to me.
