oops- I posted this in general forum and didn't see this saftey forum until now.... -------------------------------------------- I just had a new (less than 200km tire with no sign of wear or brittleness) split open with no warning. Fortunately, I was going less than 5 miles an hour (which made it extra weird). I didn't see anything that I ran over than contributed to problem and there is no sign of other kinds of damage which causes this. Tire was made by "Yuan Xing" and was a 130/60-13. I plan to buy two new american made tires as soon as I post this and I am reconsidering whether I want to be riding a chinese scooter at this point (mine has been a lemon so far).
Be careful!!!

I changed out the Chen Shang Chinese tires on my scoot for Pirellis. Rides better, and I feel more confident

yeah it is not uncommon to find the rubber not cured properly on the tires. So substandard poor formulation rubber not being cured properly leads to failure. OEM tires need to be watched closely and upgraded as soon as practical. The OEM tires are the absolutely cheapest the factory can get to put on the bikes. the cheaper the scooter the cheaper the tires.
