I tried the search function but could not get an answer. I heard you, don't call me Basset-brained! My question is, what will the symptoms be if the cam timing on the gy6 is out by one tooth?

i seriously doubt it would run at all and if it did it would have extremely low power.

OK, the engine is starting pronto and running fine. Power also OK. The T mark on the flywheel just looked a little bit off the spot to me but l used it anyway. There is just this strange TRRRRRR sound while the engine is running. Loose tappet or exhaust gasket leak? Hope it's not main bearing!

In most single cam engines, one tooth aadvance will give CRAZY low end response, but will feel like your pushing a brick wall on the high end, and one tooth retarded will have no low end at all and eventually the high end of the rev range will either have a little power or a lot, depending on what RPM the power band is moved to. I have no doubt a scooter will be similar.

Ok, so that begs the question, how many cam teeth does a GY6 have? Once you know the number of cam teeth, you can calculate the degrees of advance/retard per tooth.

My Wildfire 150SP was assembled one tooth off. It had no top end, couldn't go over 40, and would cough and choke at WOT. Took me the entire summer to get them to find and fix this problem. I don't know which way it was off but sure sounded wrong.
