Hello egarlander: Welcome.
I should hope not. Did you buy the scooter new and was a proper PDI done on it? I am not sure how fast you plan on traveling but that scooter should hit 70mph or there abouts. Doing a complete PDI will catch ( by some estimates) 90% of any potential problems, in addition you should change the valve stems. You could change the spark plug to a iridium type, you may want to put some Dana beads in the tires to give it a little more stable/smoother ride, but truth be told that scooter is not a high performance scooter. You can keep it running with many trouble free miles with regular maintenance, but zoom zoom ..... not so much.

The sl 250-22 is the sunl equivelent of the roketa mc-54. Basically a clone of the Honda reflex, with the 244cc engine. Performance parts are easy to find from many sources. Also oem chinese parts are easy to get, from sunl, roketa, and other sources that sell the same scoot under different names.

The simplest performance mods would be to change to a low restriction air filter, open the exhaust up (somewhere there's a thread with pictures of a cut muffler), then maybe go to a slightly larger jet size. The better air filter and reducing exhaust restriction will let the engine breath better (and a little leaner, which is why you might need to rejet the carb) without doing anything that would shorten the engine's life or make much of a difference in mpg.
Read through the Roketa MC-54-250 threads. As has been stated, your scooter is the same model with a different label. The MC-54-250B is almost the same, but it has a different engine.
Something I've been wondering about... The Sunl SL250-2 is the same model as the Roketa MC-13-250, but the 2008 SL250-2 has the fuel tank moved to the back, instead of mounted at the front (sorta between the rider's feet). Is the SL250-22's fuel tank also mounted at the back of the scooter?
