What is causing my rear wheel (drum brake) to squeak when I apply moderate pressure. If I crank down hard it doesn't do it. I can actually go real slow and lightly squeeze the handle and it will squeal as long as I am moving.

JTL, how many miles on the scoot?
It may just need a good cleaning. Can you take off the rear wheel assembly and clean out the dust?
You're not alone, my front disc brake squeals and I need to work on mine as well.

Yeah, start by cleaning. Here's part of another thread about my scoot... With the wheel off, check the drum for scoring or damage and clean with brake cleaner. Now I have a look at the brake shoes. I like to go over them lightly with emory paper as well then clean with brake cleaner.

Thanks for the info, I can always count on you guys. I only have 600 miles on the scooter, but until I took the cable off the brake to clean the lever it did not squeak. I have been resisting taking the wheel off because I think I will also need to remove the muffler, and I was thinking maybe I will get a new pipe and do it all at the same time. My neighbor and I sprayed a lot of detail crap on our scooters when we cleaned them up and maybe some of that oily stuff got into the drum. I actually squirted some carb cleaner around the wheel where the drum is thinking it may dissolve the residue. No go on that. Like I said it only squeals when you lightly grab the brake handle, if I brake hard it makes no sound.
