Steve,
I created an account on the KYMCO board. It will be another site I check with specific KYMCO questions.
For whatever reason KYMCO does not appear to be a popular brand here in the Dawg Pound. However, this is the BEST board I have found and will keep it as my first choice. The Dawgs and Dawgettes are the most helpful and friendly folks around.......bar none!
Thanks for the link to the KYMCO forum site. I had found it once but didn't register.
Am I correct in assuming you ride a KYMCO? What model?
Frank

Yeah, Jacine, what's w Kymco & dealers. They had super local dealer last year w a ton of product on the floor. Now dealer still has the Kymco name on their sign, but not a single machine on the floor. Just a cuple of Schwin 50cc by the front door.

Can't get too much info yet, but a few Kymco dependent dealers have closed, and another one has modified the line to Hyosung. When I asked about Kymco, he said you don't want to know.

Hmmm... I hope I didn't make a bad decision on buying the Xciting 250. It's a great bike and I haven't had a single thing go bad yet. We have a B&M dealer in town, but they are more into boats and ATV's than scooters. Although, the did have about 8 scooters on the show floor the last time I was in.

newrider57 - I don't think you made a mistake buying a KYMCO, but it sounds like there are problems with dealers and the brand. The shop you bought from should be able to repair it even if they stop being a KYMCO dealer, and I've never heard of a problem obtaining KYMCO parts.
The B&M shop I bought my scooter from used to carry KYMCO but stopped, I believe, in 2007. They switched over to SYM, ADLY/Lambretta, and now are even stocking Keeways.
Something does seem to be up with KYMCO - maybe it's a supply issue, or a profit margin issue...I'd love to hear from someone in the know.

Well, maybe it is just a brand recognition thing. I must admit, I had never heard of Kymco until I started looking. I did checking before I bought and the results indicated favorable opinions, so I went ahead. Maybe it is a cost thing. I got a huge deal on my Xciting 250.. only $3500, a 2006 still in the crate. I can say that if it would have been the 2008/09 with a cost around $4995 or higher, I would have considered something else.

While checking the Kymco USA dealers websites, I couldn't help noticing the lack of 2008 customer reviews. Most of the full service dealers have feedback on their other scooter lines but Kymco seems to be lacking. Its strange that Kymco is not as viable as the other lines of scooters. Well, too bad, very good scooter line. Following Honda?

Having recently acquired a KYMCO should not be of a great concern I don't think. They seem to be extremely reliable and well built. Most machinery that is 'made right' from the drawing board to what goes out the door experience few problems, and those tend to be minor failures in a component or something like that.
It sounds like you got a steal of a deal! I would be proud to have done that, even if I knew KYMCO had gone belly up! ;d

I just got a Kymco People S 250....love it but this thread has me worried....should I be concerned? One of the Kymco dealers here in DFW I visited was wanting to expand their scooter business...

I would not be alarmed, but some concern seems to be justified. The Kymco machines like others say are solid and well made. They have been around a good while and to my knowledge have not experienced any real quality issues. There could be problems in the Kymco business structure or something like that that is causing shops to shut down, maybe even demanding large inventories that some don't or can't pay for. There could be a lot of problems unseen is this. However, the scooters themselves seem to still be of good quality and not problematic.

Good Grief...look what happens when I pause to count my remaining brain cells.....three??? AHHHHHH!!!
Yes Frank, I have a Grand Vista and am very happy with it.
Both local Kymco dealers still sell Kymco's.....if and when they have stock, however they carry other brands as well. They have a few scoots, such as People & PeopleS 200's and one 250. The Tacoma dealer got an Xciting 250 (2006) from another dealer, but is probably gone by now. Both dealers tell me that everything is on back-order..It's hurting them, but aren't saying anything else.
The Local Honda dealer (Hinshaw's in Auburn) "thanked" Honda for D-C'ing the Reflex and Helix by bringing SYM scoots into their store. The RV250 is VERY nice, but don't know if any have sold. I had Hinshaws order my Avon Viper Strykes and they'll install them later this week. They also have the Suzi-Q's.

I am new user here. I have a 2007 Kymco People S250, well actually 2 of them. I have about 500 miles on each, without a single problem. I have been riding since the 70s. I also have a 1984 Honda Elite 125, and a 2008 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic. I think the Kymco is a very well built scooter. Although they have a couple of issues. The windshield is either angled wrong, or is too short, all of the wind goes right in your face. Also the speedo numbers that you can see at night are the kilos. Other than that I think it will just work fine.

If you think Taiwan is China then yes. If you take the Western view then No. I have a 1 year old Kymco GV 250 that is absolutely bullet proof. The only work required was oil changes and gear oil changes. The engineering is such that you can remove the body panels w/o affecting the integrety of the scooter. It will run, can be worked on etc with or without the panelling. It will be listed "for sale" in the Flea market thread within a day or two as I find I'm too old for this sport. No longer have the reflexs to stay safe, so it's time to "hang it up" along side of golf clubs and airplanes.

Aw man, all you guys with the Kymco 250s bought the Scoot I wanted to move up to eventually. I told the guy at Tulsa Scooters that I would come back in in the Spring and take one off his hands.

spacecowboy - The last time I was in Claremore Cycle and Marine, they had a 2006 Xciting 250 on the showroom floor. It was the orange one and I haven't been in there for a while, so they may have sold it. I am sure if you called them they could tell you if it is still available.

Does anybody know where I can get some accessories for my 2007 Kymco People S250? I would like a taller, or differently angled windshield. I would also like the sockets and bulbs for the original front turn signals, that would be the lower ones built into the front of the scooter, the ones that are used in other countries. Also does anybody know of a way to make the MPH portion of the speedometer illuminated, stock only the KPH section is illuminated.
