I have found myself somehow working on many scooters these days. People used to stop by with their broken down cars, now its scooters. Anyway, I have a 2004-5 Verucci 2 stroke scooter that has ran a total of three miles. It quit running and the owner just parked it. I discovered that the fuel line was attached to the wrong port on the carb so it was getting no fuel. I figured out where the lines were supposed to be attached to the carb and got fuel pumping out of the pump. I reattached the line to the carb and am now getting fuel to the motor. It has good spark and seems to have good compression. After I kick it a few times it whooshes or backfires out the tail pipe. My questions are: Where should I start out with the carb settings? Does 2 stroke oil go bad after setting? What is the little lever on the right handle bar that has a cable running to the carb?
Thanks for any help

Where should I start out with the carb settings? The mixture screw should probably be about 1 1/2 turns out to start with. The factory will often set the clip on the jet needle to the middle position. Does 2 stroke oil go bad after setting? It should, just like any oil. If it has been sitting that long, it's cheap enough to replace just to be sure it's alright. What is the little lever on the right handle bar that has a cable running to the carb? Not familiar with this scoot, but there aren't too many functions it should be going to a carburetor. I would think the only real possibilities would be something to do with oil injection or a manual choke. [/quote]

I assumed it was a choke, but its spring loaded and you have to hold it in place.
But anyway the problem turned out to be a badly scored piston and sleeve. So it just needs some new parts.
Thanks for the help.
