I just purchased my 04 Zuma last week-end and put a new plug in on Monday. I pulled it today after about 20 miles some of which was wot and it has barely if any tan or brown discoloration. I know it is using oil because I filled that and the gas tank at the same time and it is down. I did put some Sea Foam in the gas because the scooter had not been run for a long time. Maybe that creates a lean condition although I did the same thing in my wife's Vino and her new plug got nice and tan after about the same miles. Any thoughts?

Why do you think it is ruining lean, did you install a pipe or otherwise modify it?
You won't see much on a new plug with 20 miles. probably not a whole lot at 200 miles. Just leave the plug in it and ride it..
Two-strokes that are dangerously lean always surge at or near top speed.

I have not made any mods but when I took out the old plug is was pretty dark and oily. This one after what is now about 30 miles is just barely starting to turn color and not much. IIRC when I changed the plug in my Vino and subsequently checked it for color it was a nice tan color after only a few miles. I am really paranoid about running lean and seizing the engine.

Mine runs pretty rich and it won't show color for a little while. If there are no mods and your old plug is dark, I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. Get some more miles on it and have another look. I'm glad you're trying to stay on top of things, but don't get nervous yet.
