My friend and I both have Zuma's and he just ordered new tires. He has been told that he can expect to gain some mph. True or not? I also wonder about how much top end speed you can get with a windshield. Finally, I only replaced the exhaust and rollers would I gain much top end? I currently can do upper 30's but would like to hit the lower 40's like my wife's stock Vino. Thanks.

My friend and I both have Zuma's and he just ordered new tires. He has been told that he can expect to gain some mph. True or not? With a normal tire change (meaning he isn't going way different with the size) any increase or decrease will be minimal. The main improvement I would expect would be a smoother ride with a better quality aftermarket tire (Pirelli, Michelin, etc...). If you use a tire with a larger diameter, the wheel will travel farther on every rotation and allow for a higher top speed, depending just how large the tire is. The larger tire would also have a negative effect on acceleration. I also wonder about how much top end speed you can get with a windshield. I've heard people claiming a couple MPH. No personal experience. I would imagine it would depend on the windshield's size/shape, the scooter's top speed, and if your scoot is mechanically capable of traveling faster (if your scoot is revved out when you top out you prob won't see anything from it... if your scoot is struggling to get to it's top speed you would be more likely to see some effect). Finally, I only replaced the exhaust and rollers would I gain much top end? Usually you use a heavier roller weight to try and get more speed, but it is my understanding that most scoots have heavy enough rollers stock. It's more common to go lighter to gain some acceleration, but not so light that top speed is affected. 4 gram rollers are a pretty popular choice. A good tuned pipe may increase your top speed. It will help make more power, which will likely increase speed if your scoot struggles to top out. Pipes can often squeeze a few more revs out of the engine. The faster that engine can turn, the faster the scooter can potentially travel.

The windshield cuts wind resistance from your body, and in my experiments seems to be worth 3-4 MPH top end. As always, YMMV Of course, if your scoot tops out at 42 MPH with your weight on it, that's all it can do.

I thought about changing out by stock exhaust, but after reading many threads I wonder if it is worth the cost and effort unless you do additional mods. I am also concerned about how loud a Leo Vince or similar pipe might be. I wonder if changing the variator and/or roller weights would make a difference. It has pretty good acceleration off the line and up to about 25-30mph.

I thought about changing out by stock exhaust, but after reading many threads I wonder if it is worth the cost and effort unless you do additional mods. If I had to choose between a $170 50cc pipe or a $120 70cc kit, I'd take the 70cc kit. That's the main reason I don't see the tuned pipes being worth it as the sole mod. Besides that, if you buy a 50cc pipe then upgrade to a 70cc kit later, you shoulda just waited and got a 70cc pipe. The main benefit of a pipe over a big bore to me would be ease of installation for someone that doesn't plan a lot of other mods. I am also concerned about how loud a Leo Vince or similar pipe might be. I don't know specifics on which pipes are loud and which aren't other than the MRP I have. Maybe someone else can tell you which pipes tend to be the loudest? I know lbo has messed with a Leo pipe. Even if the pipe is loud stock, there may be hope. My MRP was loud brand new, and after a little more than 3,000 miles it got LOUD. I thoguht it was something with the silencer design, but decided to try out some FMF Performance Muffler Packing. It is still louder than stock by a bit, but I would think it would be acceptable to nearly anyone... assuming you aren't looking for a scooter you can't hear or something. It shouldn't draw attention from cops, but you know it's got a pipe. Here's a bit about repacking a silencer. I wonder if changing the variator and/or roller weights would make a difference. It has pretty good acceleration off the line and up to about 25-30mph. If you are in there checking things over, see what roller weights you have. 4 gram weights are a popular choice. If you have something heavier than that, you many wanna see what some 4g rollers would do for you. Roller weights can certainly make a difference. Rollers are much cheaper than a variator. My minarelli weights are 15mmx12mm and I paid $5 a set for 4g.

A friend of mine just put the Leo Vince pipe on his otherwise stock Zuma. The pipe came with 4g weights and yellow clutch springs. After some tuning he ended up running stock weights and the yellow springs.
His main gain was in the top end, on flat or downhill the Zuma screams past my 72cc 2T scooter after she gets her R's up.
It lost a little bit of hill climb power but it was never really good at that before anyways.

I just changed my tires, pirelli sl26 , as far as more mph I would say very little maybe 1-2mph , but you get more performance from a street performance tire and it handles much better in the turns, I wouldn't mess with the diamater of your tires , you are then messing with the engine curve, without a cylinder kit you will be makeing your scooter weaker at the start even changeing your roller weights probably wont get back the bottom end you had with just a 50cc motor. But yes changeing your exhaust and dropping your roller weights some should give you an extra 8-10 mph, Remember to upjet and make sure your exhaust is derestricted, I would buy a Malossi replacment air filter too, I got mine for 8 dollars, a main jet isnt but about 4.95 , I am not sure where all the restrictors are on a zuma , but im sure there are lot's here that can tell you.I don't know if it is the gearing on a Zuma or really what it is but a few I have talked too say they can get to 40mph real fast, but they can't make a zuma with stock gears go much faster than 40, I really wonder why that is cause mine even before I added a 70cc cylinder kit would go 42- 45 or so, and I am a big guy.
