I got pulled over yesterday, after accidentally getting on a highway about 5 miles from home. I stayed on the right lane until the first exit to get off as soon as possible. But just before the exit, I hear the cops siren behind me and pulled over under the crossing. Now, what would you think the first thing the cop said to me? “License and Registration Please”. Nope. “How much did you pay for your scooter, man?” I almost starting laughing after he asked me that question. You have all these cars blowing by me, at 70mph and he pulled me out of the pack, to find out about the scooter. He even gave me a ticket, for doing 59 in a 55mph zone. He must have asked me 15 different questions about the scooter (how much, where did you get it, what brand), because he mentioned he was looking to buy a scooter himself. What an ……!

Thanks for the bone divalisa.
Trigerman, if my insurance does go up, I tell them they are billing the wrong person. I'll even have "the boys" hunt him down, and pull the money out of his pocket. ;D

We had a kid in high school in the 60`s who got a speeding ticket in this beatup Rambler(car) he gladly paid the ticket and taped it up in the window. We all joked that it was the only time that a cop was bribed to give a ticket, He was so proud of it ! HA HA !!

I would be angry about that ticket too. You would think that pulling you over and asking questions, you'd get a warning as long as you are friendly... especially at 4mph over.
The ticket may or may not have much effect on your insurance. I've had my fair share of tickets and then some. If you already have some points racked up, it may hurt. If you don't have other moving violations, it may have little to no effect. I got a ticket doing 70+ in a 50 and already had some points on my license. My insurance went up $800/year for a while. If I can manage to clear some points over time, the tickets don't do much.. at least not terrible hikes like that.

What a jerk. I would definitely go to court. I bet you'll get it dismissed.

I doubt my insurance will be affected, but I am trying to weigh the cost of the ticket against the work I will miss, since I am a contract accountant and don't have vacation accrual. We'll see. Thanks!

Yeah thats pretty bad man! They are trying to make quota out there or what! Cops don't have anything else other to be doing like catching criminals... Nope giving people on scooters a speeding ticket for doing 4mph over the speed limit, come on!
heres a DAWG biscuit

In North Carolina, at least in my county, that ticket would get dropped so quickly. I would go to court and tell them that you got on by accident and that scooter speedometers are notoriously in error so you thought you were doing 55. Most ocps wouldn't even show up in court to defend that ticket.

Thanks for the bone bravo!
After thinking about this for the past few days, I am definitely going to court, just to see the judge get upset at how much this policeman is wasting the tax money we pay him with.

If the judge hesitates take him in the parking lot and day "it's a moped, it won't go 59 tops out at 55" LOL

schoei1, Good, I would go to court over that ticket as well, but you still have to take time out of your day and possibly off work to do so... Its ridiculous that you have to do that but its worth it to keep points off your license.
Good luck man!

I think that if you have to lose pay to go to court for a ticket, and it gets thrown out then the officer's pay should be docked for writing the ticket in the first place and causing you to miss work.

i told you guys, you are dealing with an unpredictable creature (police),they can make you or break you, they are the GOD! somebody mentioned about "quota"?? that's very true, beware every end of the month they are required to submit certain amount of quota for their evaluation/efficiency and effectivity as a police officer. that's why every end of the month they catch up and pulling over anyone unreasonably. so watch out guys. i am studying their behavior that's why i know these things.
PS: woooohooo,, can't imagine what buddymom will tell me this time. she's gonna spank me again. everytime i see a message in my inbox(PM),...i know it's her. LOL!

so have yo ugone to court yet? 4mph over, it's undafe for a bike, of that size NOT to go with the traffic, or a bit faster at times, to increase distance between you and them. It would be an easy one to fight, that's for sure..
Cmon... Inquiring minds want to know..

Ok, I need to make sure everyone is sitting down when they read this update and try not to go suisyco after reading it, because I am just starting to calm down now. It is now 1 month after I was pulled over for doing 59 on a 55mph highway, and have now been pulled over again, and again and again. Yes, that makes it 4 TIMES IN A ONE MONTH SPAN! It has turned to chaos where I live because of the economy and the state trying a different way to remove local illegal aliens. Two weeks ago, I was pulled over again, driving 40 on a 35mph two lane Blvd and just flowing with the traffic. The cop gave me a ticket for speeding and said “I have to do it, but no points domineer”. Then last weekend, everyone was getting pulled over just to check that you had a license, and not because of any local crime. This was happening all around town, in multi different places and traffic in both directions. And finally on Tuesday, I got pulled over by a State cop on the side of the road with a radar gun on his motorcycle. He gave me a ticket for doing 39 on a 35mph two lane Parkway, just flowing with traffic. There is two parts to this: 1) My GPS was showing that I was not speeding both times on the 35mph streets 2) My scoot is getting picked out of the pack, and I am sure they are trying to get every dollar they can because of the economy; and, also stopping local scooters to try and catch someone who is in the US illegally. (Maybe gy6rocket is right, they like the chrome) I am trying my best here, to write as little as possible, so I don’t go into a rant. So, my first court date is on Thursday, and I will let everyone know what the result is.

Wow thats just ridiculous I was in kind of the same boat not to long ago. I dont know why they are picking on the little guy riding scooters. I got a ticket bc I couldn't show proof of insurance when I was less then .5 miles from my house. The only reason I didnt have it was bc we just moved and got new insurance on my house car and scooter it was all at my house. It ended up costing me 50 bucks which I didn't really have plus I missed two classes at school which pissed me off. I'm sorry you got screwed so here is a bone on me

schoe
does your GPS save info??? you might want to show that to prove your case.
my first time on scoot here in mississippi, had a local cop follow me to beach, then when returning, there was one coming toward me. no stops, but i thought since NY plates they would stop me. thank god they didn't.

It has been a ruff week for me, after having to work 23 straight hours from Tuesday thru Wednesday and meet with the Board of Directors yesterday morning to present the financials. When I got home yesterday, I went to sleep through the night. But, I am off to my first court hearing and then back to the office. I will post the results of the court hearing when I get home tonight Thanks for all the support dawgs.

Well in the end, it was not a waist of time going to court yesterday. The judge asked me if want to plea guilty, no contest or not guilty? I plead not guilty and luckily I was the last one to be called or I would have had to wait until everyone else had gone through their case and then the judge goes back to the people who plea not guilty and stand trial. I told the judge that I was riding in the right lane, because my GPS accidentally led me to route 28, not knowing it was a Highway and I was just wanted to get off ASAP. I mentioned that all the cars in the center and left lanes were driving much faster than I was, and the policeman had picked me because he wanted to know more about my scooter. I told here that his first question was not "license and registration please", but it was "hey, how much did you pay for your scooter man?". Very quickly the just dismissed the case and said I would only have to pay $5 for a court fee and told the officer: "I need to see you in my chambers, NOW!". That is what I wanted to hear and put a smile on my face.
