Taking our vacation starting friday of labor day weekend we went to St. Augustine Fl. Loaded up the scooter and headed off on our 12 hour journey from Kentucky. (Roketa mc54-250b with big guy pdi except for the battery and 1700 miles on its wheels)
After going to all of the scooter shops, (which is another story itself) I decided to take the coast to Daytona. What a fabulous 50 mile ride it was. I made A quick decision-- Coco beach, why not. Pulling up to the pier in coco beach I decided to give myself a little break. Parked the scooter and went up on pier and enjoyed watching the surfers and the $3 coke that I had purchased. After about 30 minutes decided to cruise a little, went to scooter inserted key-------and nothing but click--click----click. Scooter battery was dead as dead gets.
Luckily a local worker was nearby and saw my despair. Told me about a tire shop just down the road, he wasnt sure how far but they would charge my battery. Took battery from scooter and began my journey. A whole 2 and a half blocks. After a 1 hour wait for charging and another $3 for his service I went back to scooter and she fired right up. Cruised coco beach and headed back toward St. Augustine With my next stop on the road being at a parts house for the purchase of a trickle charger that I now have mounted under the seat.
Total gas puchased for this trip that lasted 11 hours and logged 311 miles was $17.
I would do that ride again today if I were still there. Had an absolute ball.
2 days later back in saint augustine at the pier, the day after hurricane hanna had passed. I backed in to a parking space and parked, watched surfers from the pier for about an hour, decided to go for a ride. when I got to my scooter there was a harley parked on either side and one parked directly in front of me with there fearless leaders standing by there sides. I walked up and kindly said "hello fellows", one to the left of me said you drive that all the way from Ky.? NO--NO but I'll tell you what I did day before yesterday, coco beach and back all in a days work. The one parked directly in front of me in and amazing voice said, "ON THAT! You are a true biker let me move out of your way." "You guys have a great time while your here I know I sure am, see ya." Off I went watching them watching me in what looked like complete amazement.
Now Back in Ky. scooter is registering 2870 miles and the only problem I have had is a dead battery. Just went out to shop before starting this thread and hit starter button, she fired right up. I do believe my scooter has a personality if its own.
