I would like to develop a 10 minute monthly safety practice that could help me to keep my skills from my MSF and general riding knowledge fresh. I completed the MSF course and one very important thing they told us was to continually practice. While I ride almost every day now, I do not practice my skills during my daily rides. Do you have any recommendations for 3-5 skills that every scooterist could practice given only a properly functioning scoot and a dry, closed patch of pavement (park parking lot or similar). I figure about 10 minutes once a month would be sufficient.
My original thought would be:
10-15 panic stops from about 25mph Very slow-speed figure 8's Weaving in and out of the end of the parking stall separators(lines) (empty pkg lot)
Any other good ideas?

This sounds like a very good idea. There is a site called "Smartflix" that rents videos on how to do almost anything and they have a video put out by a retired California motorcycle officer. "How to ride like a pro". It shows quite a number of different driving exercises that one can practice. He uses a big bike, but, it can pertain to scoots also. Also you might check out a neat site "http://www.motorcops.com/police_training/motorcycleconepatterns.asp"
It has quite a patterns you might like to try.
Enjoy and ride safely.

Emergency lane change. Pretty easy to practice in a parking lot. Enter one parking spot at speed and move one space left or right.
Panic stop in a turn is another good one to practice.
I also play on a gravel parking lot...because sooner of later I'm going to end up in a turn that is loaded with gravel.

I agree that the empty parking lot and the slow figure eights are great. The avoidance drills are best at the end of the 10 minutes.
Whatever is best suited to the individual's pysche.

One thing I like to practice is stopping without putting my foot down. I don't do it if I am uncomfortable doing it. The secret is to just relax. Another thing I am doing is being smooth. I practice fluid movements as I ride. Go with the flow. Become one with the scoot.

It is a kind of zen thing when you get in the zone. One of the first things I learned was entering a curve slow and accelerating, letting centrifugal force bring me up to vertical. When this is done just right it just feels good. It is also safer to enter a curve slower as you can make adjustments with countersteering and throttle. A lot of single vehicle accidents happen because someone overcooked a curve.
