Hey guys,
I just got back from a two hour ride in the countryside of the East Bay in California. It was only forty miles, but the curves and the hills were what made it take so long, what made it so much fun, and what made it gorgeous.
I found myself sitting in my living room today with one of my roommates and she said "Now that you have some wheels, you oughta go explore the city!" And I thought to myself that this wasn't a bad idea, so I asked her where some country roads might be that I could just take it out and ride for a long time. She said she didn't know of any, and really only knew the Berkeley and San Fransisco areas.
A few minutes later, I snapped my laptop shut and grabbed my helmet, my keys and she asked where I was going.
"I'm gonna go get lost" I replied.
And get lost I did.
I ended up taking San Pablo (Anyone familiar with the East Bay area knows where San Pablo is) north to San Pablo Dam road. Eventually hitting the higher speeds, which was one of the things I wanted to test out. I hit about 55mph or so (Not GPS'd) on flat road without tucking, so it was probably around 50.
Anyway, after driving for a while, I started going up. And up. And up some more. Eventually finding myself on the top of (what I consider to be) a mountain (I'm from the Michigan. We don't have terrain like these crazy west coasters do).
I ended up finding this little clearing and stopped, walked across the street and snapped some photos, with this as the end result. At one point, a woman in an SUV stopped and asked me if everything was alright. I told her I was fine, just wanted to take a couple of photos.
The ride back home was even more spectacular. I hardly even needed the throttle because the hills were steep enough I could just coast down them. At one point, however, a couple of bikers nearly passed me because they could corner a lot easier than I could, but I think they were drafting me more than anything else
If anyone's interested in my exact route, or would like to take the ride with me, feel free to PM me or let me know in the thread. I would LOVE to take this ride again.
Or, if anyone knows of any other sweet country-ish places to ride around here, keep me posted. I've got all the time in the world right now just to hop on the scoot and drive off into the sunset
