Yesterday, I woke up with a "stiff neck." I rode to school yesterday but discovered it's incredibly difficult to ride safely without being able to turn your head more than 5 to 10 degrees. While I forced my neck through the pain to check the lane next to me, it's definitely not a safe way to ride. The weight of the helmet and the wind puts even more strain on your neck muscles and causes excruciating pain.
Today, it's even worse than yesterday. Wish I had the cage today to get around in. Anyways, if you wake up with a stiff neck, probably don't ride unless you absolutely have to. Just from experience. It's hard to think about other drivers' actions if you're trying to manage the pain.
Oh, and advil and this chinese vapo-rub-like stuff don't touch the pain either. Guess its the usual 3 days of misery. Dang pillow.

Hot shower usually fixes me up, set the head to a hard stream and let it pound the muscle till it either doesn't hurt anymore or its so numb that you can't feel anything ;D

Yep, tried all of those. Also tried heat and ice, massage chair, muscle relaxers, etc. I found out yesterday all the massaging was making it worse. So it's back to the "time" medicine. Maybe I'll be able to ride again by monday or tuesday

Getting stiff? That comes more often with age. Well, I've had those too, but I sleep with my head and neck propped higher than my bed level. Built a raised platform that is about 2" off the bed and sloped slightly upward. It works great for my neck and shoulders. You might want to try sleeping with those rolled pillows under your neck (Japanese-style). I can sleep solidly for 6hrs when I use the "log".
IMO, you can try this method if it becomes you, good sleeping, sweet dreams.
