Hallo all from Tulsa Oklahoma
Ever since last winter I, being vehicle-less, had always wanted a scooter. After a few months of school and scraping up cash I finally found a Kymco People 150 in working orderwith 1200 miles on it going for about 1,200 dollars on Craigslist.
It wasn't my first choice--I originally was going to buy a Honda Reflex a Yamaha dealer was selling for 3K but it was sold before I could get the money. But the Kymco was a good deal apparently and only had some minor mostly cosmetic damage (And had been dropped once).
Research on the Kymcos had previously suggested they were pretty rock-solid as far as scooters go, and my Goldwing-riding friend agreed. The large tires were also a plus in his book.
About a month and a half into owning the thing I've put about 1000 miles on it and I gotta say, these things are a hoot.
I'm glad to have found such an active group of scooter enthusiasts on the web. I was never a gearhead--but I'll become one if the situation warrents.
1st Newbie Question: The Kymco manual suggests SAE 30, but is full of typos and miscellaneous Engrish. I've read of Shell Rotella T 15W-40 being used in Scoots with success as well. Anyone with a similar Kymco mind giving me a hint here?

Welcome.
15W40 Rotella T is very popular here. 10W40 is another good choice.

Kymco's are excellent scoots.
KYMCO and SYM (from what I understand) used to manufacture engines for Honda until Honda attempted to take over operations. KYMCO and SYM then broke ties with Honda and they each manufacture their own scoots. They are like the Ford and GM of Taiwan.

Heheh...sounds like I really got a good deal then. It's been pretty rock-solid commuting 40+ three times a week. Did the oil change too. Darn that stuff was dirty, almost sludge. Next thing's the air cleaner
