But for your own safety people, please DON'T do what this man did. I met this older gentleman on his scoot today coming home from work. I gave him a low wave as he approached me but out of the corner of my eye, this man continued to stare at my scoot disregarding what was in front and around him. This was on a 4 lane road at 45 mph. I am proud of my scoot probably as much as he is his, but we all have to remember to SEE! This incident occurred near a traffic light he was approaching that I had already passed thru. If a cage had to suddenly stop for the light, this poor fellow would have eaten the trunk of a car in front of him. Hope this incident helps some of you to focus and enjoy your rides.

This woman ended up dying after this story was printed ....
Woman hurt badly in scooter crash By DAN TUOHY New Hampshire Union Leader Friday, Jun. 13, 2008
CORNISH – A passing motorcyclist waved and the woman returned the salute common to riders everywhere. And then she lost control of her new scooter.
Going about 40 to 45 mph, she laid her 2007 Aprilia down on the pavement and crashed into a guardrail on a bend in the road on Route 12A.
Marcia Woodbury, 62, of Plainfield, was rushed to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where she was admitted in critical, Cornish Police Chief Doug Hackett said.
The scooter had only 36 miles on it.
Police urge people on the road to be alert every motorcycle season, but soaring gas prices and the popularity of scooters have Hackett concerned about a new crop of inexperienced riders.
"They're all over the place," he said. "She's only been driving it for 36 miles. This just sort of raises my curiosity level."
Woodbury, who was wearing a helmet, was found unconscious at the scene. Aprilia is an Italian-manufactured scooter. There are two dealers in New Hampshire.
From a witness report, police determined Woodbury was heading southbound on Route 12A, near Blow Me Down Mill, when the accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Police said she lost control of the scooter when she took one hand off the handlebars to wave to the northbound motorcyclist.
Hackett encouraged new operators of scooters to practice and to use great caution. He added that, as far as the law is concerned, scooters are motorcycles.

Yes, a sad story. My heart goes out to the family. And I refuse to give a wave in a turn situation or heavy traffic.
