Hello all, I ordered my RV 250 last month and it's supposed to be in at the end of August. I already got my Nolan N-42 helmet with the N-com commo set up, have any of you tried the N-Com system yet? Thanks

Don't know anything about the N-com, but cool on the RV-250. If/when I get tired of my 250 china-scoot and want to upgrade, the Sym is currently my first choice.

You guys should check out the SYM info on wikipedia as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SYM_MotorsIf they ever put out a 500cc Maxi it would probably knock the heck out of an Xciting. They sell good stuff, and they were second on my list only because they didn't have something in that cc range, however for 250ccs they are first.

I am looking at the Sym 250s and Kymco. What do you like about the Sym vs Kymco? THX

Sooooo ... if SYM is a better quality scooter, is the price that much different than a CSS sold on-line? Sometimes I think there's more to determining value than just a dollar price. There's peace of mind, the hours spent fixing stuff that breaks, the ease of getting parts, etc. SYM has been doing this 50 years. I'd like to see if some of these off-brand scoots just make it to 5,000 miles.
Looks like SYM is definitely one of the good guys.

No question in my mind for some of us it makes sense to pay more and purchase from a close by dealer. I have it down between the SYM and KYMCO but cannot figure out which might be better (cost about the same).

I love my Sym. Smooth and powerful. Just about perfect. My only issue is what I perceive as excess turbuence over the windshield . I'm 6' 4. There is a windshield extender at Laminar available. I'm thinking about buying it. Any thoughts?
Do any of you sym rv 250 know how the oil reset light works?

It will help for sure. Going with some other after market windshield is going to be wider as well, and that might make you too warm in the summer months. I switch between the stock windshield and a Givi on my scoot. There is no way the Givi is going to be on in the summer, I will pass out while driving.

KYMCO Xciting 250Ri : looks like a very similar scoot. looks like it costs a little more. are both dealers near you? looks like there are a few more accessories you can currently buy with the kymco.

Doncat what was your driving speed when you got 73 mpg. i have only been able to get 61 out of mine. i drive mostly between an indicated 65 to 75 mph range. Also curious where the windshield you spoke of is at. At 6' i catch a lot of wind myself. ;D

Ska, look here: www.laminarlip.com/cruisers.php This will help deflect that wind up rather than have a wider & taller windshield like the Givis or Puigs. I am not sure if Givi or Puig make windshields for SYM yet, there are a couple of other brands that make custom ones, but I am not sure of their names. Tom

I have had my 2007 SYM RV250 since February of this year and I have just cleared the 3,000 mile mark. I have had zero problems and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I have averaged a consistent 60 mpg. The fastest I have gone was an indicated 83 mph at about 7250 rpm (10% speedo error, 75mph actual). The scooter cruises comfortably at 70 mph indicated. The only negatives I've encountered is the dealer is 60 miles away, the mirror placement doesn't provide very good rear view, the glove box door fit, and the cup holder is iffy. These are all minor given the pluses. Pluses include foot room for flat foot or stretched position (I'm 6'0" with 34" inseam), comfortable wide seat, excellent headlights and large brake light, excellent brakes, underseat storage for full face helmet and tourmaster jacket, excellent high speed handling, etc.

what do you think about the windshield. should i get an extender. I agree about the issues that you have.

The stock windshield is okay for under 50 mph. I'm sure a slightly taller windshield would help with the wind buffeting when cruising above 50 mph. I haven't checked out the aftermarket windshield mentioned earlier in this thread.

Is there a big difference between SYM and Kymco? What do you think? With the ceramic heads, 4-valves and EFI on some models, SYM blows away Kymco in my opinion. Plus they are much more dependable units for sure. -Rich

Great info thanks. BUT, now how do the 250s compare? It appears the smaller ones give the advantage to SYM. Is the same true of the 250s? Thanks.

The stock RV 250 will keep up with a stock Kymco Xciting 500 since the bone stock X500 will top at about 85mph. The fit and finish are really nice on both. SYM tends to overbuild their scoots some. If/when you get a chance to look at one, even look at the rails used to hold the butt bumper in place and compare it to the Xciting, the SYM is much more stout. If/when SYM makes a 500cc they will pretty much force Kymco to do some major changes. As it is, Kymco needs to start moving towards 4 valve motors. I wish they would come out with some retro fit kits for us.
The only thing I would want to see SYM change presently on their scooters is to increase the diameter size of their shocks a pinch. This my opinion only though, and these are deal breakers at all in shopping. Their shocks work well, are adjustable, and not known to be weak points.

if you want to get the 411 on a lot of non-mainland Chinese scooters i.e SYM, Kymco, Piaggio etc Google justgottascoot they also have podcast archives they recorded featuring some head-honcho's from the different manufacturers.
To answer your question about the difference between the SYM RV 250 and the Kymco exciting 250 scooters, the RV 250, according to justgottascoot review, is the "Kawasaki" of the 250 class of scooters, for you who are familiar with Kawasaki's, they ride stiff so that they can handle the corners better than all other bikes, the reviewer actually liked the RV 250 ride better because of this, know one wants a sloppy ride i.e drift when your taking corners. Kymco's have a much softer ride, probably due to the suspension. Some higher end scooters are now offering a suspension adjustment feature to change the ride for a stiffer ride or for adding an extra load...maybe for adding a mother-in-law...lol.
I currently have a dilemma , the SYM RV 250 I put a deposit on is arriving in a few days, but found out that the 2009 Kymco exciting 250 i are being sold starting the first week in September. The cost i found out is $5,100 plus tax etc which totals $5,400
That's only $400 more than the SYM RV 250, this Kymco is fuel injected and a 2009, the RV 250 is a 2008 model and not fuel injected. The local dealer is about 15 miles from me, the RV dealer is 3 miles. Both the Kymco and the SYM scoots have the same 2 year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
SYM does have a 2009 fuel injected model coming out soon, the CityCom.300 but is looks too much like the Kymco People scoot which to me is to stubby, those scoots hardly offer any leg room compared to the 250 styles. The RV 250 scoot is much more in the style of a touring scoot and the CityCom.300 is more for short commutes.
Their is an SYM commercial video of the SYM CityCom.300 on YouTube, it's starts out fine for about 10 seconds and then idiot music starts and drowns out the sound of the scoot, The music is some R&B melody...they sound like Boyz 2 Men or something...lol. The video shows some young kids on the scoot and they look a little cramped...lol.
The bottom line is...I don't know if the fuel injected models really make that much difference over the carburated ones?? Anybody have a fuel injected scoot? Thanks.

I've too have been drooling over the Sym RV250 and the 2009 Kymco Exciting 250i. A few more differences besides the fuel injection: The Kymco has 14" wheels rear and 15" wheels front (or vice versa) while the Sym has 13" wheels front and back. Also, the Kymco has about 2.8" longer wheelbase and is a bit (23 lb) heavier (both scoots are beefy for 250's - around 400 lb). Seems to me for $400 extra you're getting a lot more scoot/machine with the Kymco. You should buy the Kymco then report back to us Gary

There are pros and cons to that. You might get the fuel injection, but none of the ceramic coating and the only 2 (Kymco) instead of 4 valves that the SYM has. It is really a dead heat, both at nice scooters. Now if for the extra $400 they threw in ABS....... Tom

There's a SYM dealer very close to my house. They have the RV250 for $4,999.00. Think I'll check it out in person, not that I'm in the market for a new scoot, but I'd like to see if all the good praise is warranted.
