*CHECK MY LAST POST! I HAVE UPDATED THIS THREAD.*I have a linhai aeolus 300 and after riding it about a half hour, it will die and won't start again until it cools off completely. (about 45 minutes or so) I have looked into it and it appears there is no spark during this condition. Is there anyone else wo has also had this problem and figured it out? Or am I on my own. Could it be the coil? The CDI? Some other sensor I am unaware of? Any help would be appreciated. How about a place to get parts? I live in Michigan if that matters.

Sounds like what a blown head gasket will produce, if you have ever had the bike just quit running, I would think you have done some serious damage...
Have you checked your cooling system out? That would be the first place I would go for a diagnosis. If you have never changed the coolant, that is most likely your problem, lousy Chinese coolant and probably a system that is clogged up with corrosion.

you can get parts from the importer sunright international: sunrightus@aol.com ,did you do a pdi and change out the fluids and flush the cooling system?

All of the fluids were replaced right away. I am pretty certain there is nothing wrong with the head gasket. There are no leaks anywhere, and the oil is still as clean as new. It only has 500 miles on it. I checked the fuel flow. And the spark. There appears to be no spark at all when this condition happens, then after it cools and starts again, I check it and see a spark. At first I thought it could be related to the kickstand switch so I disconnected it and tried it both disconnected and also with a jumper wire in the connector but still nothing. On cool mornings though, it hasn't died yet, only when I ride it in the afternoon and it is hot outside. (This may just be coincidence though.)

hey seadooloo,I'm having a problem with mynew 500 mile linhai257 so I read your story with interest. tonite I found out from a mech that knows his stuff that my prob might be the ethanol in most gas causing the needle to stick in the float.it is causing a great deal of probs in the marine industry also.rusty suggested that I tap the float bowl gently to dislodge the needle. I checked the google and came up with shell as not using ethanol and I'll be changing soon as I run out.or drain it out. keep in touch. Its not starting dependably so I have to check several things tomorrow.stand switch is a thought.luck and I did not drain my cooling fluid. It was built in may,08

Good info there wildbill! I was going to mention the coil going bad, electrical parts often can get weird when they heat up, hope it is the ethanol, lots of ways to deal with that, like Seafoam or just avoiding it if possible!

seadooloo, Welcome to the Dawg Pound and Linhai 300 ownership!! Send me a PM with your scoot color. I will add your name to the owner's list in the special Linhai thread.
About your problem. My first guess would be the coil breaking down. No spark = the engine won't run! Not related to the carb. or gas if you aren't getting spark. Usually the CDI will go completely bad and the scoot won't run at all but the coil can have a heat buildup related failure and quit or produce only a very weak spark until it cools. Do check that the ignition wire is tightly secured in the plug boot and coil ends. To my knowledge, this has not been a problem on Linhai scoots but is an easy check. Contact your dealer for a replacement under warranty or, if the dealer is not coming through, contact Sunright directly and ask for Jim Rafac, the head tech. Your coil should be covered for up to 1 yr. Tell them you want the "short wire" version, if they have it in stock.

Thanks for the replies. At this point I will try almost anything to make this thing dependable again. I don't even want to take it anywhere since it is never fun to be stranded for 45 minutes until this thing is ready to go again. After I do some more investigation and try to zero in on the problem I will keep up on this topic so everyone will know how it was solved. Any more Idea's, just keep them coming. I'll check in here, now and then.

My recommendation about the coil is based on your description of no spark. I did, just last month, have a fuel pump failure at 2,300 miles. Symptoms: would start and run OK cold. After a few to several miles would begin to sputter, backfire and die at speed (40-50 mph). After setting for several minutes, it would re-start and run again for a few miles - longer if I was going slower. Spark tested OK at all times but fuel pump output was only a trickle. Replaced pump and all has been OK for the past 250 miles. It may not fit your symptoms but I am giving you this info. just as a backup in case the coil scenario doesn't play out.

My coil went totally dead at 125 miles, and I had had some intermittent issues with stalling at idle since the first day. I have ordered another coil and CDI (my CDI has a visible wire, which may not be an issue, but it should be sealed with the rest of the circuits). Haven't been able to ride for about three weeks now, so I'm hoping to be able to get the replacement parts pretty soon.

I think the coil would be a warranty item, not sure, but I would certainly ask for a replacement from the dealer... scooterollie relates that the importer of these is busting butt to give excellent service, so I would think your problem will be dealt with very quick once they get notice of the situation.

hey seadooloo.I may have answered you the other day but today I found more info.My 257 linhai has 500 miles on it and I can't get it to hit at all for about a week.I changed the plug.no diff. my dealer said today that two other scoot owners have the same prob as I do and The dealer took the carb apart and cleaned it and finally got it started but after killing it ,had much difficulty getting it to start again.when I left their dealership the battery had gone down. one troubled scoot has only 200 miles, the one they were working on.The tech at Sunright did not know how to get to the carb and it was similar to three or two blind mice working on this scoot. Iwatched so at least now I know where the carb is located. I'll be back hopefully monday with mine if I can locate a trailer to bring it to them. The dealer and I really thought better of Linhai than the troubles we are having and maybe they might ,I said might buy them back.Maybe you and me have a bad group.the dealer has a 300 as you do and if he incurs problems I'll try to put the info on this site.jon is a meber of this scootdawg too. bill

Wildbill, I hate to say it but from your description, the mech. at that shop does not sound very capable to me. I am far from a full time mechanic but I certainly know where to find the carb. Before removing things, the mech. should be doing some diagnostics to narrow the cause of the problem. These things really aren't that complicated and anyone who has been around small engines for a while shouldn't be all that challenged by an issue. I have spoken with the head tech - Jim Rafac - at Sunright and have great trouble with your dealer saying he didn't know where the carb. is located. Perhaps your dealer was not really talking with a tech but a sales person, instead. When I spoke w/Jim Rafac, he was VERY knowledgeable about these scoots. I'm not there and haven't talked with your dealer but he doesn't inspire me with much confidence from what you have said.

It can be a simple as a spark plug, or a loose pin connector, all the way to a bad stator. There is a thread on that stator problem from a week or so ago that high resistance would shut it down. He watched the ohms drop as it cooled and then it would start.

Allen has a good point about the spark plug. That should always be the first to check. Just the other day a friend had an almost new plug go bad. The bike had been running and the when he tried to re-start it, no go. Switched plugs and it fired right up! Double checked and the spark was jumping to ground down inside the plug, most likely caused by a bad insulator.

Allen and Scooterollie are giving the best suggestions IMHO.
You have an electrical problem and should look into the coil, the rectifier, maybe ignition wire. then go into checking out the stator, thats my two cents.

In case you didn't read it in cstephens thread about his linhai quits running. He had the same issues as mine. I bought a new CDI and installed, rode for 2 1/2 hours with no trouble. I was however concerned that the lower temps outside nowadays weren't allowing it to get hot enough to make it quit running. So, I devised a little test, I installed the old CDI back and started the bike. After it warmed up I took a blow dryer and heated up the CDI, it died as soon as the CDI got warm. I put in the new CDI and did the same thing and it kept on running. Put back in the old one and it wouldn't start. put back in the new one and it started. At this point the new one was hotter than the old one and the bike still ran. If you are having trouble with your scooter dying when it is hot out and then not starting until it cools off, Once you get it home, try my little test. While at home you can probably cool off the CDI in the freezer to see if it will now let the scooter run again, then try heating it up again and see if it quits again. I got my new CDI from countyimportparts.com it is the CDI for the 260cc scooters, and is rated for 9000rpm instead of 7500rpm like the stock one. Good luck to all who have had this same problem, the Aeolus is a good scooter when it can be depended on, but once it leaves you stranded it really sucks. I think I am going to buy another spare CDI just in case.

So I got a 2011 Jonway 250 same as the one on the picture above, i just got it delivered last week, so installed the mirrors and the windscreen, installed the battery and started the scooter, it ran fine, so i ran up to the gas station fill her up, ran around the block a few time, came back home, by the time i got home, it stalled, and died, i tried and tried, and nothing, so i was blaming the gas, but i got 93 octane from the Shell station across from me, anyway i put the battery charger on it, due to the fact the i killed the battery trying to started back up, after about an hour i went out and tried it, and it started, well the next day i got it registered with DMV got my plates, time to take this baby out for a spin, when to the post office, that is about 14 miles from my house, got there fine, when i came out of the PO nothing bike wont start, waited for about 45 while i got lunch and came back boom it started, yesterday it died as i was riding it, i left it, got a ride with a friend, when home, came back about an hour later and it started, now the Dealer is sending me a new Carb for it, but by reading this post, im thinking it might be the CDI not the Carb, im gonna do some testing today going to run it in the yard untill it quits, then taking the CDI out and cooling it off and putting it back on and will be posting the results.

Welcome to the forum....sounds like a valve adjustment is needed....with the Linhai engine the intake should be set at .004 intake and .006 exhaust....then you can set the idle to 1800 to 2000 rpm....enjoy the ride.....

I have a Wildfire 300SP. It will stall out on a hard excelleration, usually up hill. It starts almost immediatley, and runs fine untill another hard excelleration. The company sent me a new, and larger fuel pump, but that did not fix the problem

This can be your intake clamps are working loose, I have experienced this going up hills and my scoot would start cutting out, found out that each time I know what to do tighen my intake clamps, recently I got a lock washer for my clamp (problem fix) or your float in carb my need adjusted to allow more gas when climbing.
