I recently removed the cover to where the belt is located to check the condition. I noticed a small amount of oil on the bottom of the casing in the area of the manual starter gear. The cover has a gasket on it, but isn't this area supposed to be free of oil or does a small amount leak in over time? I am new to all of this but learning as I go. John

There isn't suppose to be any oil in there. If it's a very small amount, I'd clean it off and ride a bit to see if it is there again... unless you can actually see where it has dripped from or something. It's possible you could have an oil seal leaking, but I wouldn't worry just yet.

On my Derbi the oil injector pump is located behind and to the left of my variator. Could that be leaking? The tubing maybe?

I cleaned it up and drove it for several miles and then rechecked for a leak. Nothing so far, but since I have a warranty until October I will check again in a month or so.

Yes just keep an eye on it, I as well have my oil pump located under the variator wheel, so if there is oil it would be comming from that more than likely, if there is a leak, but pehaps they lubed the starter is all.But if it continues to leak look at the oil tubeing going into the oil pump thats where the problem would be.

Thanks, I sold that scooter (TGB) and bought a Zuma to pair with my wife's Vino. The Vino is faster and now I am thinking that I should have bought another one of those. I will never be satisfied.
