GOT YA! Hehe, sorry just had to do it, I know people will be clicking on this link ready to flame. I just wanted to say that every time I change my oil ( i own a 4 stroke 150) I remember how much I miss my 2 stroke machines. It was so much easier just to burn the oil, rather than change it every 250 miles like I do. Not as easy on the environment, but much easier on me Anyway, there are some great 2 stroke rides on here, I am considering buying another one. I've been out of the 2 stroke game for while now, just wondering what some good names are? I've owned honda and yamaha 50's but I want to get some thing cheap that I have to completely disassemble to make work correctly Thanks guys for any suggestions on brand and or where you buy from.

Kymco, but they aren't cheap. Been happy with mine, 7000km in a year and only thing I have had to replace is the rear tire and a spark plug so far. It has started up everytime, heck the battery has even lasted and never needed to be charged, and it gives great performance.

I like my Vento Triton (bought local). Vento is not the cheapest, but far from expensive too. They do have a nice website for ordering parts easily, and deliver pretty fast on standard shipping. I like the way it looks, as well as others like it (Strada RX8 is a little cheaper and I still hear good things about them). If you get a scoot with a Minarelli style engine, mods are plentiful. www.vento.comHow do I change the oil in a 2 stroke? Start it.

How cheap to you want to go? I really like my Lambretta due50, but it's Kymco-ish in price. The Adly Panther 50 is essentially the same scooter, and Adly makes a panther 100 as well. I'll chime in and cast my vote for TGB. I recently bought one used and so far I really like it. It has a Morini engine which has been around for a long time.

All are great scoots. I saw a Lambretta 50cc brand new for about $1,800 somewhere online a couple of days ago. Couldn't believe it was that cheap.
I just bought a Strada RX8 (I'm a 2stroke guy at heart) and I'll have to say, owning Chinese scoots since 2003, that the quality has vastly improved. Like the Vento Triton (it's twin), they are relatively fast, 40-50mph, have a great parts supply as well as upgrades as 90GTVert said.
The thing is this. If you're going to buy a Chinese scoot you have to buy one from a brand maker that uses good parts. The manufacturer will build a scoot for $600 or for $1000 (or something like that. If anyone wants to give me the real figures, please chime in) You want the scoot that's built for $1000 because it uses better screws, plastics, switches, wiring, etc. I think that the engines are basically the same, it's the incidentals that are important so that you don't have electrical issues, weak plastics that are brittle, out of round wheels, etc.
The hard part is discerning which dealers carry the better scoots! The easier part of this is the old addage that you get what you pay for.
I love all scoots, Chinese, Italian, Taiwanese (TGB, Kymco, TNG, SYM, etc), Indian (Bajaj), so I'm not biased. My wife has an Italjet Velocifero and has had a Kymco People 50. With any scoot you can get a lemon. Even Honda.
Just take your time deciding and do your homework. Try to resist the impulse to buy and make an informed decision and you'll do fine.

That's a very good price on a Lambretta 50cc. I paid $2,200, but the dealer had destricted and added their performance package...it did seem upgraded from the Adly panther - nicer tires, paint, and allegedly other upgraded internal parts (although what parts is a mystery).
I've seen Adly panthers going for $1,600 and brick and mortar shops. Adly/Lambretta are both Taiwanese made, and Adly has a pretty good rep in Europe and Australia (made the Bug Jive which was the best selling scoot a year or two ago).
I agree with you Karl - I love any scooter, and I'm especially fond of the 50cc 2 strokes. I've been eyeing, online only so far, the Keeway Venus which our dealer has started to stock. I'm not overly mechanically inclined (but do tinker a bit), so I only buy what can be maintained by a real mechanic in a local shop. Since they're stocking Keeway, I know they'll fix it, and it has a 2 year warranty. The scooter review online really liked it - I think they ranked it 2nd or 3rd in their 10 scooter 50cc review.

Talking about parts quality makes me wish Baja (not Bajaj) made a minarelli scoot. They make the SC50 (looks like the Vento Zip R3i) that everyone calls junk because it's from pep boys and the 4 stroke is slow. I've actaully worked on one a bit. I was suprised to see parts stamped "Vento" just like the ones on my Triton. Go figure, people call the Baja junk and the Vento's are good... yet they use many of the same parts. Just goes to show that with a good PDI some of the cheapest scoots can be up there with more expensive ones (Baja SC50 = $900 from Pep Boys in MD, Vento Triton = $1400 from dealer in MD).

I agree the PDI is key. I couldn't do it myself (and be comfortable that I'd done it right). This is my first new scoot, so I paid extra to make sure it was set up correctly. However, I have bought used several times with good results.
Minarelli engines are great for moding.

I'll put in a vote for SYM. Mine has over 1400 clicks on it and the one problem I had was fixed immediately by my dealer free of charge. SYM has several 2 stroke models, in fact, I think their only 4 stroke 50cc is the Mio. Finding one might be a problem though. I recently visited my dealer and of the 30 or so scoots he had in stock when I bought mine, I think I counted 3 left. He said that he couldn't get any more SYM's until October.

I also own a sym 50cc two stroke. Sym sells a kit that includes a pipe for derestriction. Altoghether with derestriction you are probably looking at a price from 2000 to 2500 if you can find a new one. Also my dealer said that the next ones he gets in will be 200 to 400 dollas more. Great scooter will get to 35 in a flash and can cruise comfortably around 45 once derestricted.

Thanks for the replies guys, I checked out all the bikes you recommended. I've also been considering buying a 2 stroke crate engine to tune and run in my current chassis. The mounts look the exact with the exception of the single shock setup.
