I recently bought a mesh summer jacket (Fieldsheer Mach 7) that comes with plastic and cushion shoulder, elbow, and back pads. I'm curious if anyone has had the unfortunate experience of utilizing one of these (or something roughly similar) and to know how they held up? Did the mesh hold the pads in place long enough to stop sliding from 55MPH or less?
Thanks

I'm interested to know as well. I'm currently looking at something similar. Here in SE Texas it's currently 97+ degrees and I'm hoping they work out well - anything has to be better than the t-shirt I'm usually in.

i cant say as to the slide factor, but here in Alabama it has been 95+ with high humidity and my Joe rocket mesh jacket is fine - gets a little warm when stopped, but it is worth it to me. I am a big guy and am always hot, so the fact that I wear it is a testament to its design. I wear a HiViz yellow reflective vest over it i got off ebay for $7 too!

Gotta be better than a T-shirt.
Mine's never been asphalt tested, but I wear a FirstGear Mesh-Tex 2 in bright yellow.

I use to race pocket-bikes on a track and another rider ran into me from behind at 40+mph. The crash caused my pocket-bike to slide out right under me and I went tumbling. I walked away with a dislocated right thumb, but the rest of me was fine because of the full-helmet and jacket. The jacket was very similar to yours. It was mesh with padding in the shoulders, elbow, sides etc. The jacket certainly did it's job by protecting my upper body, and it was reusable.
Bottom-line the jacket isn't going to be as effective as a full-leather suit, but it does it's job quite well.

hi, do the fieldsheer jackets have armor for your spine as well? Or is the back just fabric? Thanks

It got up to 95 or so last week and it felt alright, except at the very long red lights....at anything above 10 or 20 mph, you can feel the breeze blowing through the front and the arms. I keep the end of the sleeves nice and wide so the wind blows in also. If you shift your body a bit, you can get a breeze in between the backpad and my back. I also like the bright yellow color. Mine is the previous year's model of the above jacket.
mrgene13, thanks for the info. I don't imagine it would hold up as well as the leathers, but I couldn't stand the heat with that. As goofy as it looks to wear, I feel a sense of attachment to my skin. Glad to hear the mesh holds up alright.
mortar235, the back pad feels like padding and not necessarily armor. I think it would work as effectively though...unless you ride much much faster than our scooters travel
