Hello and greetings to all forum members and elected officials. I joined the forum late last night under the name scootloose and posted a rather lengthy inquiry concerning my pending purchase of the above scooter from the mentioned dealer. Unfortunately I did not print out a copy of what I wrote and since I have not received a reply I don't know if I posted the message in the right location or exactly what was said. Maybe someone knows how to look around for it? The points of most concern at present is that I have put a down payment on this scoot and I am not sure I have made the best selection. Since we don't have any B&M dealers near us with what I was looking for I chose it over all other scoots researched over the Internet for several reasons. I like the styling. It will be used for short single rider commutes and some two up touring adventures typically in mountainous terrain, i.e. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive in the State of Virginia. It has a liquid cooled, 19HP advertised 250cc engine (I am not sure which of the two Chinese engines it has at the moment) both front and rear anti-lock disc brakes, (I found no others with rear ABS), a tall windscreen, a lockable trunk and lockable, detachable saddlebags as well as under seat storage for weekend getaways. It also has 13" aluminum rims, remote start, alarm system, full instrumentation, an AM/FM/CD player and a 13L fuel tank (approx. 3.5 gallons) that should give me a driving range of 220 - 250 miles. The best part is that it comes with a better than most advertised one year parts warranty and 2 years engine warranty and they throw in a free helmet. Some of the other transaction details I was not thrilled about but can live with.
To back up a bit I had to give up my 2006 Honda Goldwing several months ago due to health problems. I just could not handle the bike's weight especially with my wife on it. However there is just something about the wind in my hair, or whats left of it, and bugs in my teeth that I refuse to give up on biking altogether and if I can handle a scoot well then I don't think there is any shame in riding one. Obviously I am searching for a touring type of scooter, built well and with enough guts to go where we want to take it. I have not seen many favorable reviews on the Chinese scoots nor a proliferation of Jmstar scoots on the net altogether. I do not want to purchase something thats going to be a maintenance and repair nightmare although I consider my mechanical skills as better than most.
The price, while not the cheapest, I figured was a mid-point of what scoots cost and did not want to spend the big bucks until I find out if scootering fits the bill. Before I take delivery, and being new to scooterdum, I wanted to ask for members opinion of this scoot and dealer (yes, they are a B&M dealership that sells over the Internet as well). If any member knows of a similar, better bike or dealer in the $3,000.00 - $3,500.00 range I would greatly appreciate their opinions, comments and recommendations (I did not say I would necessarily like them but would appreciate them nonetheless). Also, suggestions for break-in, what type of oil to use (I run Castrol Syntech full synthetic in all of my other vehicles), replacing any OEM parts with something of better quality (as long as it won't void the warranty) and what spares or tools to carry on the bike in the event of trouble on the highway. Also, any good sources for customizing accessories?
Thank to all who reply. I hope we can post mutually beneficial messages in the future if all goes well.
