I just found this forum....YEAAAH. I am just looking at getting a 'Scoot. Probably a Lance touring 150. I drive approx 40 miles round trip - mostly flat, residential type roads to work 5 days....is it reasonable to expect this low end scoot to hold up to this kind of riding. 40-50 mph is usually the max speed I travel. I have been a motorcycle rider most of my life, but don't want another one as I am a senior citizen, & they are just too heavy & expensive. But I am concerned about a 150 holding up. Thanks from a brand new reader.

Cheap scoots can do that kind of mileage but unless you are mechanically savvy you might want to up your budget just a bit and look at a Scoot like the Genuine Buddy 150 cc. If you have a good local dealer to service it for you the Lance would likely be fine. Any scoot can break and they all will eventually. They are far more likely to break when brand new and very old. A good new or used Yamaha Vino 125 might be an option as could a scoot like the Kymco People 150. Check around your area and see what you have for dealers within a reasonable distance. I get overly protective about our female members traveling long distances on inexpensive scoots. If you are mechanically savvy and can fix it yourself they are pretty simple and can be sorted out in short order but if you don't have the part that stopped the bike with you it's still a long walk/push back home. Either way always carry a cell phone with you. Welcome to the group!

do your self a favor and look up John Moxie at Moxie scooters, or Randolf Garner at Garner's classic scooters, they are both in the metroplex and will set you up on a reliable scooter that will do what you want it to. www.moxiescooters.comthey are a little bit pricier scooters than the lance, but they are great guys and will get you on the right bike and have excellent service. if the Lance is what you can afford, check with www.killermotorsports.com they are in Ft. Worth and do all the service and warrenty work themselves..... and I work in Addison, so if you do break down, maybe I can help

ok, an update..I opted to spend a little more money, went to Killermotorsports and am buying an Apollo 250 cruiser or coach from them this week-end.....I am taking the motorcycle class on Aug 2/3rd (even tho I have ridden motorcycles most of my life - I figure a refresher course in safety won't hurt), I hope to be out "scootin" safely & happily by the middle of August....

I used to live in Richardson in the early '90s. Enjoyed the life in north Dallas.
I'm an aging motorcyclist as well. Still riding the big cc's on weekends and business travel but have decided to go the scooter route for my daily commute. I think you'll be much happier with a 250cc motor for 40 mile daily commutes. My commute is 3.1 miles per day so the 150cc will work for me.
Enjoy the new ride and please give a review on the model you end up with.

welcome, Katbowls 2 ! I am also an "older" scooter rider (from Garland/Rockwall area) and enjoying every minute of it. I have met John at Moxie Scooters and have a friend who's bought 3 scooters (2 TNG lowboys and a Kymco Venox) from him. She's been very happy with her scooters and with service, so that would be a good place to start. There is also a scooter dealer who sells Lance scooters at Mishi Powersports in Plano (http://www.mishipowersports.com/) but have no knowledge of their sales/service reputation. I did look at their website and they reportedly do have Lance models available.
Hope to see you out there scootin soon. When you get your ride, let me know and maybe a group of us can meet up in Richardson or Garland someplace.
Good luck in your pursuit of a scoot and look forward to getting pics of your new wheels, whatever they may be .....
added: just reread thread and saw that you've already made your choice which is, BTW, a great looking scoot! So, send pics when you can!

I got it!! Apollo MP 250A JCL Cruiser (red) from Killer Motorsports in Ft Worth, TX. Paid 2607 & change for scooter, TTL (they are doing that for me) & a brand new helmet. I don't get to pick it up until the 9th as I have Motorcycle class next weekend. I can't hardly wait. I would put a pix of it here but I don't know how.

Great looking scoot! And it's red...I really like red scoots 'cos they go faster, ya know...LOL. I know you are anxious to get the MSF course done and get on the road.
Hope to see pics and stories from you soon....
