Hello all! My first post here at scootdawg, as I'm an aspiring scooter rider/buyer. I have a quick question for you folks, and hope someone can help...I was looking at the Qlink Commuter 250 today. The dealer didn't have any, but said some were due later in the week. Anyway, they have either the Commuter or the CF Moto Fashion (basically the same scoot). The salesman was about the same height as I am (I'm only about 5'6", 150 lbs), and he said that I'd have a hard time on a 150 (like the E-Jewel or Qlink Pegasus) because of my height. He let me sit on a CF Moto Fashion that they had there for servicing, and he was probably right, as I didn't have much room to spare to touch the ground. Anyway, do you think the 150's are out for me, because of my height, like the salesman said?
I really don't want to spend over $3000 for a scooter, and I think a 150 with the 12 hp motor would suit me fine...but when you add in the fact that the 250 has a radio, and also a windshield, and is only $550 more - should I get a 250? Can I find a 150 with a lower seat height? I really don't need the radio, but I do like the idea of a windshield - how much does a windshield cost to add to a 150?? Any info is appreciated, thanks!

For the extra $550 I think the 250 is a better buy but it depends on what you want to do with it. I go on the freeway every day and the speed limit is 75 here so the 250 was a must have for me. If you are going to be going slow in town only then the smaller scoot might make more sense for you. My wife does not like my bike because it is very heavy and being small and a first time rider (5'4" and 120lbs) she had a hard time handling the beast.
Good luck on your search and welcome!

I'm not planning on going on the interstate with it. If I can hit 55 mph on a couple of the state route highways, if I decide to ride it to work, or run up to the mall, is really all I need. I 'm concerned that the Fashion/Commuter 250 is too heavy for me also. That's why I'm thinking an e-jewel 150 or Qlink Pegasus would be fine. Most of my driving will be around town, and on country roads, from 25 mph to 45 mph. But, I am concerned about the seat height being 3 to 5 inches higher on the Pegasus/E-Jewel vs the Commuter/CF Moto. Also, anybody know a good place to get motorcycle insurance? I called where I get auto insurance, but they just go through Progressive..quoted me a little less than $30/month for $500 deductible.
I'm more concerned about the seat height, though! Do you think I could ride a 150?

iwannascoot,
I am insured through Auto Owners and their rate for me was $70 for 6 months. That was the best rate I could find anywhere. It might be worth noting that my home and Jeep are also insured with them.
Good luck,

We have Progressive Insurance which was reasonably priced for our needs and the market in this area.
As for the 150cc, I have 150cc retro scoot which looks like the Lance Vintage, Il Belo, etc and at 5' 6" (I will NOT mention my weight...lol) I have plenty of room to touch the ground. I have a 150cc because I don't have any need to go over 55 as I ride neighborhoods and major business streets but I do not ride the highway. I have gotten it up to 50 and DH has gotten it up to 55 but I usually cruise roads that have speed limit of 40-45 mph. I know that a 150cc can go 55 on a flat with no strong headwinds (is that right big dawgs?) and with some mods I've heard they can go 60-65 but I just don't have the need for that speed.
Have you looked at other 150cc styles, possibly a retro-look like the Il Belo (got good reviews on this forum by a very well-known and experienced dawg) or the Lance Vintage, TNG lowboy or the La Vie. Mine is a great scoot but it was an internet buy and was great for us due to price and DH's talent with a toolbox. I looked at some 250cc recently at a dealership where we had a group ride and they just seem so heavy. But then I guess it's all what you get used to.
You need to feel good on your scoot and that seat clearance is important in learning how to ride and handle your scoot. Just keep looking. Oh, I have heard that some people have the scoot seat "shaved" to lower the height but have no idea how to go about it or who could do that for you without messing up the seat closure, etc.
Keep us updated! Scoot safe....
