The weather has been pretty dry, most of the dirt paths, tow paths and powerline trails around me have been mowed and cleared of tall grass and bushes.. I decided to take MC-54 out for some off-road exploration. Start out with the mild stuff, some nice covered bridge, Railroad tracks near the nuke powerplant, Power lines that are constantly buzzing.. More narrow bridge: Some 4 miles of forest service hardpack dirt riding, suspension are really crap on these scooter, even at low speed.. I just stand on the floor boards and hammered it through.. Somehow I rode though this wheat field, lots of fish-tailing fun.. Can't complain, about 20 plus miles of off-pavement adventure riding and the scooter has only lost one bolt from the body pannel. I stopped at the gas station on the way home, $4.059/gal. for 87 octane. Tripmeter has accumulated 158.7 miles, I put in 1.74 gal. I wish the scooter has more torque output, or perhalps I should have lowered the tire pressure to 12 psi. for some of the loose dirt and steep hilly sections. The standing position for dirt riding is decent on the scooter, large platforms for feet to move around for counter balance, handlebar is fairly tall to reach from standing. Now where can I find some decent suspension for these scoots?

Didn't you mama teach you not to park on RR tracks?! lol j/k Look like a lot of fun. The dry grass looks like a possable fire hazard with how hot these tail pipes get but it all depends on how dry it is. The packed durt looks like a blast!

Regarding the suspension... in all honesty, it's not meant for off road, and you're not likely to find anything that will make it work in those situation. Best bet, rather than ruining something that works fine for what it's designed for, would be to buy a Chinese dirt bike. Or, if you can find one in your price range, a Honda CRF 100. A friend back in high school used to have one and we'd spend all weekend taking turns on that thing, and it's a great bike to bomb around on back roads and through fields.

Riding off-road require the rider to pick the speed and the best lines along the trail so the machine would take les beating, I am confident enough of my skills to have taken my scooter for off-road adventures, maybe it's bacause I've ridden dirt bikes and mt. bikes for decades and I weigh only 140 lb.
Yesterday, I rode my 250cc Chinese scooter from Limerick, PA to Pearl River, NY, with a stop along the way in Hoboken, NJ. 160 miles in 3:35 of riding time.
Majority of this trip was between 45-55 mph, 95% of engine operation was under 5000 rpm. Put in the tank 1.645 gal. once I got to Pearl River, NY. No problem whatsoever on the scooter.

How many MPG do you figure you got on that trip?

I fill up the tank every 150 mile or more, usually fill up 1.5 gal. or more.

Last Monday, I rode 180 miles one way for a business trip with a week worth of clothes, 2nd pair of shoes, laptop, attache case, etc.. over 400 miles logged for five days, and I'm getting paid $0.73 per mile. I shuved all the tools, spare parts in the underseat compartment, including CVT drive belt, tire repair kit, 1 qt. of motor oil, 1 qt. of coolant, electric air compressor, bettery tender and a 25ft. extension cord. Scooter felt much heavier to deploy the centerstand fully loaded, felt little sluggish when there was 100% humidity. Other than that no problem whatsoever. Cought a blimp in the sky:
