Hi everyone, I'm a newbie without a bike. I have never riden but am salivating at the Roketa I've been looking at. Don't have the cash to buy one but i sure do need one. Can't keep putting gas in the hay burner going back and forth to work. I presently commute 25 miles each way each day and it is costing. always wanted to ride but just couldn't hack all all that gear shifting. Anyways would a 250cc be the bike for me. I commute all highway no city driving except when i get to work and where i work is right off the highway before i actually get into town. I'm driving country roads all the way with lots of rollercoaster type steep hills. Also i don't know much about scoots and or how to assemble and repair. Anyone know howto finance one without selling my firstborn. and are online dealers legit. So far by reading this forum i have not anything good. Has anyone had any dealings with extreme scooters.com. I know it's a lot for my first post. But man I'm ready to ride.

I bought mine from them, Dave has exellent service befor the sale, and he will take care of you after the sale, but is slow doing it. I think you would be ok buying from them, their prices are also about as good as you will find on the internet, I have the black 250 B with almost 4000 miles on it now and Im very pleased with it. My picture is at the bottom of the 250B info on extreme-scooters.com. I live in the Charleston, WV area and you shold have no problems ridding in KY

Say philwill1, welcome to the dawg pound!
Have you got any local dealers nearby? They could help you out with financing and also keep you on the road. If you're gonna commute, I'd suggest checking some Japanese and Taiwan scoots as they'll be super reliable. Look for used ones as well. Getting a China scoot can work out, but you need to get it assembled and prepped if you're not gonna do it yourself and this can add a chunk to the price. You might want to search for PDI and see if you think you can do it youself which will save you some cash.
And yeah, steep hills can really slow down a 150cc of most brands. They'll cruse at 55 mph, but a steep hill can have you down to 45 and slowing traffic.
Good luck in your search!

thanks for the heads up on the PDI. I'm not what you would call an ace mechanic, but i like a challenge and when i was a whippersnapper i worked on my own cars and lawnmowers and minibikes.. Anyhow i live in far western KY about 10 miles from the mighty mississippi and about 50 from Paducah. Hey why don't you go into the PDI business. I don't really see very many scoots here but i'm will to bet that with the way gas is increasing that it is only a matter of time before they will start to increase.. I'm seeing so many bad reports about Roketa on this site. that i'm waffling now about getting one. I'm also looking at the jonways. what is the difference in these bikes. They look alike to me. also something called a machoman looks an awful lot like roketa to me. are all these scoots the same just with a different name stuck on the side or is there a real difference in them

Hey, I didn't write that PDI, this cool guy Rich from down around New Orleans did. I lucked into a fantastic deal on a SYM (made in Taiwan) and except for one minor thing that the dealer fixed immediately, it's been trouble free. I've changed gear box oil and derestricted some so I think I could work on em, but it's nice I haven't had to.
Don't let looks deceive you, there are just so many designs out there and a bunch of different manufacturer's use those same designs. Some of em make them right, and some make them cheap with bad welds and faulty wiring etc. I think it depends on different batches too. There are some guys who've had good luck with Roketa and some who have had nothing but problems. Thing is, if you do an extensive PDI BEFORE you ever ride your China scoot, your chances for problems go down drastically.

Hey philwill1 you down around Wickliff( think I spelled that right)? I am here in Elizabethtown and try to get down your way as much as I can. Go the Ky Dam Village camping at least 1 a year. Love it down there. Think my lance Intercept would make it there?

hello mr. badbutt. i'm about 22 miles dead south of wickliffe. And that lance prob could make it. Haven't been through E-Town in a while now. Have never really stopped there just past thru on the way to ville and lexington down the bluegrass and going to morehead. Use to go through about once every two months or so. Now not a lot anymore. Be glad when i can get a scoot and ride instead of watching videos. down this way people have not seem to get it yet. although in TN they love em. Went to a B&M in Union City,TN today to see if they had a honda reflex so that i could get the feel of one and they said they were sold out and were not expecting anymore in anytime soon. They were having trouble getting them. They even sold all their helixes. But in western ky most people look at you strange when you even mention the word scoot. like what are you from mars or something LOL. But we are always 4 years behind the great central part of the state. anyhow i'm gonna watch another scoot video and dream on.

philwill1,
Don't feel like the lone ranger about the strange looks when mentioning scooters. I was getting heckled a lot until I told the guys I went 77 miles on a gallon of gas. They don't bother me to much now. I was with a co worker looking at MC and they said they can't get any scooters. They are popular and only getting more popular as gas goes up.

Just wanted to pop in and say go EKU Colonels! Went to school at EKU for 2 1/2 years. It was a fun time. Moved on back home to California afterwards. I have been back once to visit. I can't wait until I get a chance to go back. My company has a large presence out in the Lilly and Bowling Green areas. Hopefully they let me go on a business trip.
Good looking in finding a scoot!!! Hope all goes well for you. I imagine riding around the KY back roads would be a blast. Just don't order a blue one for UK..hehe.

Hay jrsharp21, I went to school in Bowling Green. Visited Eastern several times as well as Morehead, kinda next door.
philwill1, you've got to have the motorcycle endorsement on your license for anything over 50cc. I've just got the little one now so don't need that or insurance, but I think you can take that course and wave the road test. I'll maybe be checking next year.

The safety class is $148. I take mine the 1st of Aug.. Hey jrsharp21 I got a blue Lance because it goes faster than the other color scoots in Ky. Especially red ones. I do think maroon may may be a close 2nd. ;D

Got the blue Hurricane here in Lexington!! Glad to see a lot more Kentuckians in here. I've heard E-town and the West side represented (grew up in Paducah, parents still live there). Too bad, not the ideal day to ride in the Commonwealth today, looks like there's rain all over. Drove my Xterra in to work this morning, it was the first time I've driven it since June 25. GO CATS!!

philwill1,
You know all that book learnin' you got back here in kaintuck Have left a mark on you ain't it?
Glad you like us.When you come back for a visit be sure to ask us about the weather. Right now you wouldn't want to ride your scooter to much.
Today was the first day I had to drive the cage to work since June 20th. Had to drive it to other places though. Trying to figure out how I can get wife, 6'5 son and daughter in law in a side car.

Yeah I think there might be a cow path tween Lexington and E-town. You do know the cow has the right away. . Only road I know would be highway 62. Not sure where you would pick it up. Liquor stores, whats that? Our liquor comes out of a jug not no fancy store. You know if you pay them revenuers some money or give them a chicken or 2 they ain't problem.

One of the guys on my team, from Harlan, had some of that "jug liquor". He gave me a little taste. I tell you what, I probably could have lit my breath on fire. And I thought drinking Everclear was bad. This was even worse.

I work with a gentleman who has a pipeline to some "shine" and he gets all kind of fruit flavored stuff. I am not much of a drinker and he had me doing taste test for him. We had cherry, blackberry, grape, apricot and I seemed to have lost my facilities about that time. I can't remember what he did have. I do know it was smooth. Didn't burn till it hit your stomach, but when it did set you on fire.

What's the price difference philwill1? That sounds a bit high for roketa.
Hey, I want to invite everyone from this thread to go to the 'Show and Tell' section and check out my vanity plate. You guys are the only people who will appreciate it! ;D

I have to get some more facts first. I just talked to the dealer on the phone real quick on my break at work. I'm going up there monday when i get off from work and check out the bikes and see if this includes tax and anything else. That just seems a bit too high for my liking. extreme says they will sell for 2075 including shipping. I just don't think prep should be worth a $500 difference.
