Just got back from my weekend in Chicago, it was a blast, great people, great food, great beer, but best of all fantastic scoots!
Spent most of the time walking around, shopping, and checking out some of the great sights in the city, as this was my first time there. Come Sunday, with great weather and a lot of city left to explore I convinced my wife and her cousins, who live there, to rent some scoots Before we left on the trip I did a bit of research and found a place called "Windy City Vespa" that is a scooter dealer and renter. Called them up and reserved 2 scooters for 6 hours, a piaggio/vespa and a lambretta.I highly recommend these guys, very friendly, professional, and had a really nice lineup of scoots and good prices. Both were 50cc 2 strokes. The vespa was a bit older but was a really nice comfy ride, the lambretta was a head turner, new and fast. I really liked this model with the fold up foot pegs, came in handy when you have a wife on the back! I let the cousins do most of the leading since they know the city well, and were able to take us on quite the tour.
We cruised all over, saw just about every aspect of the city in 6 hours and $3 in fuel. Hit one small storm but was able to park the scoot under a building awning and wait 15 minutes for the storm to pass. All in all we had a great time, downtown Chicago is profound, and it's really a mess to get around in a cage, but very easy to get around via scoot. It makes you feel so small riding in between massive skyscrapers. I wish I had more time to spend there but I'm back to reality now, that is the Strada
Here are some pix I snapped of the scoots, and my fellow riders on Sunday. I have many more, but here is a few. Just so everyone knows, this is one of the VERY FEW times that I have ridden without gear. I am usually suited up w/ helmet but this was just one of those times I rode without. It's not a good way to ride but I was extra cautious and for the most part was under 25mph, not to mention having a passenger to also spot for me. We all fared fine, just wanted to let you guys know that riding w/o a helmet is not my standard practice!
The Machines
Me (in the black) and cousin (in the canada tee)
Breathtaking view of the city skyline.
Chinatown, Just had too, the Strada would have been at home here!
Fellow riders
Me and the wife, posed with the lambretta.
Love the ride!
